debian/patches/14_isw-serial-fix.patch: Change the serial number scan to only
look at the LAST 16 bytes rather than the first. Thanks Sam Bingner (LP:

Note that this patch is fixing #267953, this bug was instead fixed with:

* debian/patches/02_scsi_serial_remove_ws.dpatch: remove whitespace from
serial id (LP: #305011)

Cheers,

2008-12-05 Thread Phillip Susi
I'm a little confused because when I got the email it looked like your
disk serial numbers were long and space padded on the front, but looking
at the message on launchpad now, they aren't. Maybe lp is eating the
duplicate spaces. Since the package in the other bug report worked for
you, try dmraid - 1.0.0.rc15-1~exp1ubuntu1~ppa1 in my PPA in which I
have also added the serial number fix.

I did not test mounting and read/write, because I did a chroot. But I assume
if it found it ok then the mapper works.

Is it possible debian would use this patch? (If I go to debian one day)

Thank you for your help with this issue Giuseppe and Phillip, much
appreciated. Raid 10 is a cheaper alternative if you want mirroring and
striping without raid 5 xor/parity hardware/cpu usage. I'm quite
satisfied with it.

2008-12-05 Thread Phillip Susi
I'm confused. I applied the same patch to rc15 that Giuseppe applied to
rc14. Looking at your new rc15 patch, it doesn't look like it has the
serial fix patch in it. Instead it looks like it has a patch which
reverts an upstream change that was made between rc14 and rc15. That
change was to stop removing whitespace from the serial number, and
Giuseppe's version goes back to removing the whitespace. I had asked if
removing that whitespace was correct on the ataraid mailing list a while
ago because I thought it might be the cause of some other people's
issues, and never got a reply. I guess they decided to go ahead and
remove it.

What I don't understand is why the first change fixes the issue in rc14,
but not rc15, and rc15 is instead fixed by going back to the rc14
treatment of whitespace.
