[Bug 526475] Re: pidgin close unexpectly with indicator-applet

2010-09-16 Thread Tin Tvrtkovic
I traced the problem to code in indicate_show_cb. Apparently,
gtw_window_present (and present_with_time) are supposed to be used to
present already open windows
(http://library.gnome.org/devel/gtk/2.90/GtkWindow.html#gtk-window-
present), so that might have been a contributing factor.

Two proposed fixes:

1) Add a call to pidgin_conv_attach_to_conversation(). See patch 1.

2) Replace the block with pidgin_conv_present_conversation() (and keep
pidgin_conv_window_switch_gtkconv(), to ensure the conversation gets
focused. Might be more elegant. See patch 2 in next comment.

[Bug 526475] Re: pidgin close unexpectly with indicator-applet

2010-09-10 Thread Tin Tvrtkovic
I believe I am affected by this bug as well. It happens only when Hide
new IM conversations is set to Always.

Steps to reproduce:

1) Have a contact send me an instant message. The message will pop up in a
notification, and the name of the contact will be added to the messaging menu,
under Pidgin.
2) Click the contact name in the messaging menu. A new conversation window will
open, displaying the message, but it will be unfocused.
3) Focus the conversation window, and close it. The conversation window will
empty itself, but will not close. Another click on the close window button is
needed to close the window.
4) Have the contact send another message. Pidgin will crash.

Some more info: the bug manifests in both 2.6.6 from the Lucid
repositories, and the 2.7.3 version from the Pidgin PPA. Also manifests
itself in the pidgin-libnotify packages from both Lucid and Maverick
repos. I'm running Lucid Lynx, 32-bit.

I've attached a backtrace as per the link provided by Sebastien Bacher.
