In Banshee 2.0, go to Edit - Preferences. In the Extensions tab, almost at the bottom of the list, there is a Notification Area Icon which is not enabled by default. I know that it supposed to be enabled. Actually I'm still running Ubuntu 10.10; I was trying out Banshee 2.0.0 and ran into the notification area issue. It found the report on launchpad while searching for a solution, and added my vote, but I was in a hurry and missed the part about 11.04. Sorry. I just installed 11.04 on a different partition but haven't had a chance to really try it out. I'll check to see if Banshee has that problem in 11.04.
