indeed - and i tried to follow the instructions and compile the kernel as indicated, but ended up being told lots of files missing (mostly header files). of course, i tried to download the linux headers and other stuff i thought was relevant, but that didn't really help. :-( sorry for being obviously not as intelligent as others on this list - and i don't mean to waste your time, to the contrary, i appreciate all the help provided thus far. somewhat sad we end up having to use cheap devices... i ended up switching back to windows - first time in 15 years!! I am also surprised someone did not talk about a ndiswrapper type of temporary solution... that's what i used to do back in the initial broadcom days... but now in 2015, feeling a bit tired to go through another round of that...
