Same problem for me as well. Fresh install of ubuntu eee from the
torrent download. Here is what I get when updating:

When I click quite on netbook-remix, 8.04.1, 701 4GB, the quit window
(suspend/hibernate/restart/etc.) often does not come up, despite repeated
attempts at pressing both quit buttons.

CAUSE:
/sbin/unix_chkpwd has wrong group/permissions
SOLUTION:
chown root:shadow /sbin/unix_chkpwd
chmod 2755 /sbin/unix_chkpwd

When I suspend or hibernate my eee pc and then resume, sound no longer works.
I notice that when the machine is resuming some text briefly flickers on the
