XUbuntu will read this, and then you will be able to pick this
resolution from one of the GUI tools. In my experience, Ubuntu has
always picked the maximum resolution when it boots, and I havent had
to change it

Seu /home está numa partição separada (sda6). Ao reinstalar o Ubuntu,
é só não formatá-la. Se quiser fazer backup de configurações de alguns
programas (Samba por exemplo), copie os arquivos referentes de /etc
para o seu /home/usuario e pode reinstalar tranqüilo, formatando todas
as outras
Do jeito que está particionado o HD e montadas as partições e considerando
que a reinstalação será da mesma versão atualmente instalada, só será
necessário salvar o conteúdo de /var/cache/apt/arquivos e de /etc para
agilizar a reinstalação dos pacotes que não vêem no CD original e para repor
Isso tá com cara de superaquecimento. Já checou se o cooler do
processador está ok (pode ver a rotação dele e temperatura do
processador no SETUP e olhá-lo fisicamente mesmo)?

I just wanted to add what I know.
On a Celeron D 2.53, 650i, 4 GB, I did not have this issue, or at least I
didn't notice it.
When I switched over to AMD X2 4800+, 780G, 2 GB, I began to experience this
issue.
For what it's worth, if I reboot warm, the issue only occurs about half the
time.
I have the same problem !!!

I tried with grub with: GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX=acpi_enforce_resources=lax
But with sudo update-grub2 i had this:
/etc/default/grub: 9: acpi_enforce_resources=lax: not found

this is really nasty bug. I've spent hours after upgrading my server to Karmic
and finding that phpldapadmin is broken.
The solution in description works just well for me. Thanks a lot!

I can fix this problem.
Change /etc/default/ssh/ssh:
SSHD_OPTS=
to
SSHD_OPTS=-4
This lets the ssh-server use onlyq IPv4.
After chaning this setting, you should restart ssh-server:
# /etc/init.d/ssh restart

I am running mysql on hardy (x86_64) with mysql-server-5.0 version
5.0.51a-3 ubuntu5.4. We have running this on aserver with 128GB of ram.
When we try to set key_buffer to 25GB, mysqld crashes with the error:
091206 16:41:45 - mysqld got signal 11;

To solve this bug, install the program rlwrapp (for more information:

sudo apt-get install rlwrap
and add that before the mysql command, example:

This bug seems to have come back in jaunty. I have a server munin that
collects data from various client munin machines. This bug (nan for
/var/lock /var/run, etc.) started showing up on my 9.04 box running
munin-node.
/etc/munin/plugins# dpkg -l '*munin*'
Excellent. I did not see the (crash) behavior in Ubuntu 9.10 (which uses
3.4).

Yes, by default in samba, files created by the guest user are created
under the account specified in configuration under guest account, by
default user nobody. Creating them under the rights of the owner of
the directory is introducing security risks that are not appropriate for
a default
