I am trying to join two wmv files. I tried some ffmpeg commands but they
are not working.

Why not try openshot, cinelerra or any regular video editor.
Also may be better to convert from wmv to a more open format. This allows
more floss software to work on the file

I can't see why an upgrade should fail. I'm on Xubuntu 13.10 which should use
the very same packages and it installs just fine. So I think that there has to
be a problem with other dependencies that cause a conflict.
Did you try to update your repository and upgrade again? If it won't work, then
Reviewing the files from your upgrade attempt you seem to have enabled
the xorg-edgers-ppa. This will prevent the upgrade as that PPA contains
different versions of packages essential to Ubuntu. The page,

I realize this is quite old, but having run into the same issue myself,

Unfortunaetely, the Asus website is quite broken since a while, can't
find the bios update there. However, this bug is most certainly not
related to the BIOS as it appeared right after the update to 13.10.
