Re: [ubuntu-in] SMS app for Linux

2014-08-07 Thread Ramnarayan.K
Hi

To report back on modem-manager-gui

Yes it works, quote nicely too
it acts like a computer front end to a sim (instead of a phone) can
send and receive sms', can access the USSD code sms facility , can
pull conmtacts from the sim and it shows information about the sim
(signal strength, service provider, imei number and son on)

Thanks

@ while wammu/gammu can do most of the same - there are two flaws that
i could not work around - one it needed sudo mode to run and two its
unable to send messages.

The wammu/gammu interface is more stuffed with features but sadly not
yet working since it does not yet provide the functionality to send
sms.

thanks all for the suggestions

Am still exploring the kanchilug blog - no time as yet

Were you able to send bulk messages from modem-manager-gui?

 Just to clarify

neither wammu/gammu nor modem-manager-gui are able to pull sim contacts.

 Hi

Was curious if there were any working tools (or if any one was using such
 a tool)

to send and receive bulk sms' (to/from a contact group) via Linux + a gsm
 mobile device

Seems like gammu/ wammu supports a whole range including many of the
popular mobile broadband device http://wammu.eu/phones/ and am going to
try it but was interested to know if anyone actually used them.

 I have a huawei E1550 - which is supported ? lets see

2014-08-02 Thread Ramnarayan.K
ok so i checked out both modem-manager and prepaid-applet

both recognize both the device and the service provider

prepaid applet says it cannot find information about idea cellular and asks
to refer to a wiki

modem-manager though is more responsive- shows all the info about the
device and the connection, signal strenght etc and is able to query ussd
codes and get info. Next is to see if it can send an sms
