Thanks for the reply and suggestion. I ran the suggested commands in the
link subsequently:
begin
sudo apt-get clean
sudo apt-get update
end
then
begin
sudo rm /var/lib/apt/lists/* -vf
sudo apt-get update
end
The sudo apt-get update ran without error. Last 2 lines from terminal

- upgrade package started failing (w/ samba?)
+ update package started failing (w/ samba?)
