Could this error be related to this bug: http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-
bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=478752, namely the last message, which lists CUPS
as the offender. I've recently uncommented the line listed in this
message and haven't seen any more errors, however it did take about 10
hours for it to
Looking at the terminal log, this is the stage where it went wrong:

As Karl mentions, this seems to be a problem in Intrepid as well, but I
think it worked some time ago. Some changes last month that should
affect this?
What I've done to test this:
* my /etc/ldap/ldap.conf has:
TLS_REQCERT demand
TLS_CACERT /etc/ldap/certs.txt
* if I try using ldapsearch (-d

I'm also getting a lot of silent Firefox 3.0.3 SIGABRTs on Intrepid
(32-bit desktop). The link of death doesn't work for me, though. I use
the NoScript plugin so nothing Flash will load, but I can temporarily
allow all this page (thus reloading the page) and no crash.
Could those affected by the bug test that mounting with the nodfs
mount option on the current kernel in intrepid-proposed works around the
issue ? Thanks.

I think you might be on to something there. I am trying the likewise-
open package to authenticate my Ubuntu with our AD domain. (It doesn't
work very well, but I don't have time to remove it right now.)

Can we nominate that one for 8.04.2? Launchpad does not let me do it.

Same problem here on Kubuntu Intrepid, latest updates applied.
Tried all sorts of solutions, even going for bleeding edge Nvidia 180.16
drivers, nothing stops Firefox from crashing. (although I now enjoy all the
fancy 3D goodies on KDE 4.1.2)

Thank you for taking the time to report this issue and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Examining the information you have given us, this does
not appear to be a bug report so we are closing it and converting it to
a question in the support tracker. We appreciate the difficulties you
are facing, but
Since there is a specific samba bug, recognizable by a specific
backtrace, that is known to cause a silent SIGABRT exit, can I suggest
that a separate bug be established for mysterious exits that are
definitely *not* the samba issue? It seems clear that whatever
mattcasters and nanotube are
Mark, I kinda guessed by now that you figured out it had nothing to do
with samba since it sounds so silly to start with. Anyway, that same FF
version worked absolutely perfect before the upgrade from 8.04 to 8.10.
As such, I'm not so sure at all that getting into a back and forth

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. You reported this bug a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in
it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue for you. Can you try
with the latest Ubuntu release? Thanks in advance.

On a side note - I'm wondering if the same samba issue is what is
causing frequent crashes for me in Evolution.

Kees, some quick questions about your search:
• There are no instances of snprintf in your results. I could believe that
there aren’t any, because this use of snprintf has been broken for longer than
this use of sprintf, but I just wanted to confirm this.
• Does your search include DBS style
Oops, and I would use the right bug URL, of course.

I haven't yet re-run the search with snprintf.

packages?
It does not yet, but I've put together a script that
