After cracking open a local copy of the image, it looks like linux-
image-virtual has gone away. We are assuming that linux-image-virtual is
 going to be there.

Actually no. This may be a result of merging generic and virtual images together
as discussed at UDS. The linux-virtual meta package in theory should remain and
point to the appropriate generic kernel binary package.
But of course that may not be what the pvgrub config generator expects.

[Bug 1005821] [NEW] Can't use # as the delimiter between key prefixes and IDs.

2012-05-29 Thread Kamil
Public bug reported:

Hi,

memcached daemon has an option to specify custom character as the delimeter
between key prefixes and IDs. # character cannot be used because of limitation
of /usr/share/memcached/scripts/start-memcached. This startup script parses
/etc/memcached_*.conf files and treats every line with # sign as a comment,
which is wrong in case of line like below:
-D #

Simple patch attached. I know it's not perfect but it works :)

Ben,
The other thing that likely needs fixing here is copy-out-kernels in the
automated-ec2-builds.
It will need to know that certain -generic (and possibly -generic-pae?)
should be copied out as the desireable kenrel.

[Bug 1004069] Re: lxc-start-ephemeral doesn't fully work when started as non-root

2012-05-29 Thread Stéphane Graber
** Description changed:

lxc-start-ephemeral is supposed to be working as non-root by calling
sudo where needed but some actions (writing to conf files) still require
  root.

In Quantal, I fixed lxc-start-ephemeral so that it uses sudo tee in
such case, making it work as expected, this should be SRUed to Precise.

- Testcase:
- 1) sudo lxc-create -t ubuntu -n p1
- 2) lxc-start-ephemeral -o p1
+ [impact]
+ lxc-start-ephemeral only partly works when run as non-root, this isn't the
expected behaviour.
+
+ [development fix]
+ The SRU is a copy of the template from development
+
+ [stable fix]
+ The SRU is a copy of the template from development
+
+ [test case]
+  1) sudo lxc-create -t ubuntu -n p1
+  2) lxc-start-ephemeral -o p1

If 2) works properly without any error message (operation not
permitted/permission denied), then the fix works.
+
+ [regression potential]
+ Can't get much worse than a command blowing up at the middle of run time with
files being owned by root and an half started container.

** Description changed:

when bootstrapping a Precise amd64 container the following error is displayed
in the log.

  dpkg: regarding .../inetutils-ping_2%3a1.8-6_amd64.deb containing
inetutils-ping:

[Bug 1004118] Re: Duplicate upgrade code in lxc-ubuntu in Quantal

lxc (0.8.0~rc1-4ubuntu10) quantal; urgency=low

  [ Serge Hallyn ]
  * 0084-lxc-ubuntu-drop-duplicate-code.patch: drop some duplicate code from
the ubuntu template. (LP: #1004118)
  * 0085-pivot-dir: use a directory other than /mnt to put the pivot_root
old dir into (LP: #986385)

  * Ship /etc/dnsmasq.d/lxc to configure an eventual system wide
dnsmasq daemon not to listen on the LXC bridge interface. (LP: #928524)
  * Drop rm calls from postrm for apparmor rules, these were in the purge

*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1000174 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1000174

Thanks. This is due to a bug in the lxc-net upstart script which makes
it fail to start under bash. This doesn't cause a problem ordinarily,
but because you have /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash, lxc-net failed to
start.

This bug has been fixed in quantal, and the fix is being backported to
precise, but is still going through the verification process. See bug
1000174 for more information.

[Bug 993034] Re: lxc deployed units don't support https APT repositories

2012-05-29 Thread Clint Byrum
** Also affects: juju (Ubuntu)
   Importance: Undecided
   Status: New

** Changed in: juju (Ubuntu)
   Status: New = Triaged

** Changed in: juju (Ubuntu)
   Importance: Undecided = Medium

** Also affects: juju (Ubuntu Precise)
   Importance: Undecided
   Status: New

** Description changed:

+ [Impact]
+ Charms written to use https based APT sources (such as private PPA's) will
fail on the local provider because of the required connection through
apt-cacher-ng.
+
+ [Dev Fix]
+ apt should be configured not to proxy HTTPS based sources through
apt-cacher-ng
+
+ [Stable Fix]
+ Backport of the dev fix.
+
+ [Test Case]
+ 1. Create a charm whic adds an HTTPS based APT source with a valid
certificate.
+ 2. Deploy said charm in a 'type: local' environment.
+ 3. Affected juju will fail with a 'PROXY CONNECT' error. Fixed juju will
succeed.
+
+ [Regression Potential]
+ Very low. Fix has been upstream for some time. Very simple change, and any
regression would be contained to apt use of HTTPS urls in local provider, which
seems to have been totally broken as well.
+
+ Original Bug Description
+
I tried to use a repository over HTTPS in a charm testing locally, and
it was failing with a PROXY CONNECT error. It seems we try to use apt-
cacher-ng for it and it doesn't work.

  Adding Acquire::https { Proxy false; }; to /etc/apt/apt.conf.d/02juju-
apt-proxy (done in ./juju/lib/lxc/data/juju-create) seems to fix the
  issue.

[Bug 926550] Re: No way to test proposed updates to juju

2012-05-29 Thread Clint Byrum
** Description changed:

- juju-origin in environments.yaml needs to accept 'distro-proposed', or
- environments.yaml needs to accept some other option that will allow
- directing juju to install the version of juju from the -proposed pocket.
+ [Impact]
+ Users will not be able to test any proposed updates to juju in deployed nodes.
+
+ [Dev Fix]
+ Add a new origin proposed to that environments will enable the proposed
pocket on deployed nodes.
+
+ [Stable Fix]
+ Backport of Dev Fix
+
+ [Test Case]
+ 1. edit ~/.juju/environments.yaml and set 'origin: proposed' on an environment
+ 2. bootstrap said environment (juju bootstrap -e envname)
+ 3. Verify that bootstrap node has proposed pocket enabled using 'juju ssh 0'.
If there are proposed juju updates for that release, verify that juju was
installed from proposed.
+
+ [Regression Potential]
+ Very Low. The fix just adds a new origin type, 'proposed', so the others are
not really affected and the logic leading to all of the origin types is very
straightforward. There is also very good test coverage of the affected code.
+
+ == Original Bug Description ==
+
+
+ juju-origin in environments.yaml needs to accept 'distro-proposed', or
environments.yaml needs to accept some other option that will allow directing
juju to install the version of juju from the -proposed pocket.

The simplest thing is to allow juju-origin to have the URL of a .deb.

This is currently blocking the ability to do an SRU for the bugs fixed
in juju since the Ubuntu 11.10 release.
