[Bug 997978] Re: KVM images lose connectivity with bridged network

2012-09-24 Thread Eugene Nelen
I updated qemu-kvm package from ppa:ubuntu-virt/kvm-network-hang.
I started next test to load network on VMs -
On VM 1 :
% nc -k -l 0.0.0.0 4242 /dev/null
On VM 2:
% cat /dev/zero | nc IP 4242
There is no problems with this VMs from 12/Sep/2012 .
So qemu-kvm package from this PPA resolved this issue.

[Bug 1054035] Re: Adding default user fails due to lack of 'netdev' group

2012-09-24 Thread Neil Wilson
Is the netdev *group* used by Ubuntu server?

The way I've done it myself prior to Quantal is to delegate the problem
to the user-setup package.

add_default_user() {
echo Setting up '${CLOUD_DEFAULT_USERNAME}' default user
debconf-set-selections EOF
user-setup  passwd/username string  ${CLOUD_DEFAULT_USERNAME}
user-setup passwd/user-fullnamestring Default Cloud User
user-setup passwd/user-password-cryptedstring !
EOF
user-setup
}

Certainly I'd expect the default user to get created. I'd consider the current
failure to be an error.

[Bug 1054035] Re: Adding default user fails due to lack of 'netdev' group

2012-09-24 Thread Scott Moser
I'm not sure I understand.
The way to handle this in cloud-init now is just to be more explicit with your
user-data or config (/etc/cloud/cloud.cfg.d).

#cloud-config
groups:
 - foogroup
users:
 - name: ubuntu
   primary-group: foogroup

Then you'll get what you asked for.
In the past if the user 'ubuntu' did not exist, it would not be created at all.
Now, if no 'users' item is specified in config, then it expects that the
default user can be created.

So, since that default user cannot be created, it is at least arguable
that the right path is to fail. Creating groups not explicitly
requested by the user would seem wrong.

Why are you creating a default user in the 'netdev' group by default
when the standard Ubuntu server installation doesn't appear to create
that group?

That doesn't make any sense. It's always going to fail.

The fix has been uploaded into precise-proposed at about the same time as the

The fix is currently in the precise-proposed unapproved queue [1], pending
Stable Release Updates Team to review the upload and commit it to
precise-proposed to start the Stable Release Update validation process.

Re: [Bug 1054035] Re: Adding default user fails due to lack of 'netdev' group

2012-09-24 Thread Scott Moser
On Mon, 24 Sep 2012, Neil Wilson wrote:

Why are you creating a default user in the 'netdev' group by default
when the standard Ubuntu server installation doesn't appear to create
 that group?

I suppose this is probably for historical reasons. For all versions of
our cloud images (hardy+), there was a 'netdev' user in which the 'ubuntu'
was present (it is added by 'vmbuilder').

'netdev' is also present in 2 ubuntu server installations i have
(admittedly likely done via the network installer).

It is related to network-manager, clearly not important for server, but
still there nonetheless (https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Security/Privileges)

So its not going to fail in most cases. I agree that it seems
un-necessary, but I'd rather leave it as is then change the default groups
that the user is in.

Netdev is created in a 025 default group hook.

echo Adding admin group...

Why have the hooks creating the default groups? Shouldn't they be in
the standard server installation packages so that a debootstrapped
Ubuntu system has the expected /etc/group layout?

[Bug 997978] Re: KVM images lose connectivity with bridged network

2012-09-24 Thread Serge Hallyn
** Description changed:

+ =
+ SRU Justification:
+ 1. Impact: networking breaks after awhile in kvm guests using virtio
networking
+ 2. Development fix: The bug was fixed upstream and the fix picked up in a new
+merge.
+ 3. Stable fix: 3 virtio patches are cherrypicked from upstream:
+a821ce5 virtio: order index/descriptor reads
+92045d8 virtio: add missing mb() on enable notification
+a281ebc virtio: add missing mb() on notification
+ 4. Test case: Create a bridge enslaving the real NIC, and use that as the
bridge
+for a kvm instance with virtio networking. See comment #44 for specific
test
+case.
+ 5. Regression potential: Should be low as several people have tested the fixed
+package under heavy load.

Unless you must dual boot this system with Windows, the best thing to do
is not to use fake raid. Switch to regular Linux software raid instead.

[Bug 978127] Re: incorrect time on node causes failed oauth

2012-09-24 Thread Scott Moser
I just committed a fix to trunk that I believe should address this.
Its based on the suggestion in comment 13.

Basically, if we fail by 403 unauthorized, we set a skew (skew =
local_current_time - server_response_time) and future requests will have
the oauth header time adjusted by that skew.

Thanks for finding this, I really should have run a full test after

There were these two other module lenses that were using bits of the
modprobe lens, so my name change broke it. Attached is a followup patch

[Bug 1055892] [NEW] keepalived does not honor use_vmac directive

2012-09-24 Thread Martin Jackson
Public bug reported:

As of precise/quantal, keepalived does not honor the use_vmac directive.
Expected behavior is for keepalived to synthesize a virtual mac address
to go along with the virtual IP address. This is important in
situations where systems do not accept gratuitous ARP as a means to fail
over a virtual IP address.

I have built a version against the latest upstream (1.2.7), which does
honor the use_vmac directive as expected. below follows an example of
how it should look (see 6:):

[Bug 1055892] Re: keepalived does not honor use_vmac directive

I should add that this didn't work quite as expected - although the mac
addresses were set as expected, the interfaces in question did not
respond to pings or function as HA IPs. So there may be more going on.

[Bug 1049582] Re: radosgw crash on armhf architecture

2012-09-24 Thread Yehuda Sadeh
I can't really reproduced, don't have a similar setup ready. However, analyzing
the backtrace and the code, the following may fix the issue:
https://github.com/ceph/ceph/commit/2fddfb0a95288d39cee2e82376297ce43296743b

It has already been pushed to the ceph stable branch, though it's not in
any tagged version yet.
