[Bug 1314598] [NEW] [Precise] drbd8: drbdadm does not run compat mode when DRBD_DONT_WARN_ON_VERSION_MISMATCH is set
Public bug reported: SRU Justification: Impact: This is for now only relevant for the 12.04 (Precise) backport of drbd-utils 8.4.x as that uses the 8.3 compat mode when running with a linux kernel module from kernel 3.2.x. Problem is the following code: if (!getenv(DRBD_DONT_WARN_ON_VERSION_MISMATCH)) warn_on_version_mismatch(); maybe_exec_drbdadm_83(argv); Because maybe_ecec_drbdadm_83 relies on a structure being filled in warn_on_version_mismatch only. Testcase: When running a 3.2 kernel and the 8.4.x version of drbd8-utils drbdadm --version without DRBD_DONT_WARN_ON_VERSION_MISMATCH set in the environment, It will return a 8.3 version number. [Bug 1314555] Re: mysql-client -depending packages should depend on mysql-client | virtual-mysql-client instead
That's exactly why I submitted a question first : because I suspected that change in dependencies was there for a reason. If I understand the problem correctly, it's not an issue of the mysql5.6 packages, but of all the others and the same problem will occur with the mariadb packages until all dependent packages are corrected to include both dependencies? Right now, it makes it impossible to use mysql5.6/mariadb as replacements to mysql5.5 in Ubuntu 14.04. I've corrected the mysql5.6 source package and recompiled it on my side, so it's not a problem anymore, but I suspect other users will find this troublesome. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to mysql-5.6 in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1314555 Title: mysql-client -depending packages should depend on mysql-client | virtual-mysql-client instead To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mysql-5.6/+bug/1314555/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Please could you provide a minimal test case? This is from /var/log/auth.log after enabling debug and debug_state on pam_winbind and trying to log in via ssh (local logins had the same problem both via the console and lightdm) - Apr 22 16:21:23 ben sshd[10932]: pam_unix(sshd:auth): authentication failure; logname= uid=0 euid=0 tty=ssh ruser= rhost=client.example.com user=anton Apr 22 16:21:23 ben sshd[10932]: pam_winbind(sshd:auth): [pamh: 0x7f30e9cca190] ENTER: pam_sm_authenticate (flags: 0x0001) Apr 22 16:21:23 ben sshd[10932]: pam_winbind(sshd:auth): [pamh: 0x7f30e9cca190] STATE: ITEM(PAM_SERVICE) = sshd (0x7f30e9cbf250) Apr 22 16:21:23 ben sshd[10932]: pam_winbind(sshd:auth): [pamh: 0x7f30e9cca190] STATE: ITEM(PAM_USER) = anton (0x7f30e9cc1f80) Apr 22 16:21:23 ben sshd[10932]: pam_winbind(sshd:auth): [pamh: 0x7f30e9cca190] STATE: ITEM(PAM_TTY) = ssh (0x7f30e9cdb0d0) Apr 22 16:21:23 ben sshd[10932]: pam_winbind(sshd:auth): [pamh: 0x7f30e9cca190] STATE: ITEM(PAM_RHOST) = client.example.com (0x7f30e9cdb0b0) Apr 22 16:21:23 ben sshd[10932]: pam_winbind(sshd:auth): [pamh: 0x7f30e9cca190] STATE: ITEM(PAM_AUTHTOK) = 0x7f30e9cd8ef0 Apr 22 16:21:23 ben sshd[10932]: pam_winbind(sshd:auth): [pamh: 0x7f30e9cca190] STATE: ITEM(PAM_CONV) = 0x7f30e9cd8ed0 Apr 22 16:21:23 ben sshd[10932]: pam_winbind(sshd:auth): getting password (0x1389) Apr 22 16:21:23 ben sshd[10932]: pam_winbind(sshd:auth): pam_get_item returned a password Apr 22 16:21:23 ben sshd[10932]: pam_winbind(sshd:auth): Verify user 'anton' Apr 22 16:21:23 ben sshd[10932]: pam_winbind(sshd:auth): PAM config: krb5_ccache_type 'FILE' Apr 22 16:21:23 ben sshd[10932]: pam_winbind(sshd:auth): enabling krb5 login flag Apr 22 16:21:23 ben sshd[10932]: pam_winbind(sshd:auth): enabling cached login flag Apr 22 16:21:23 ben sshd[10932]: pam_winbind(sshd:auth): enabling request for a FILE krb5 ccache Apr 22 16:21:23 ben sshd[10932]: pam_winbind(sshd:auth): request wbcLogonUser failed: WBC_ERR_AUTH_ERROR, PAM error: PAM_SYSTEM_ERR (4), NTSTATUS: NT_STATUS_C ONNECTION_DISCONNECTED, Error message was: NT_STATUS_CONNECTION_DISCONNECTED Apr 22 16:21:23 ben sshd[10932]: pam_winbind(sshd:auth): internal module error (retval = PAM_SYSTEM_ERR(4), user = 'anton') Apr 22 16:21:23 ben sshd[10932]: pam_winbind(sshd:auth): [pamh: 0x7f30e9cca190] LEAVE: pam_sm_authenticate returning 4 (PAM_SYSTEM_ERR) Apr 22 16:21:23 ben sshd[10932]: pam_winbind(sshd:auth): [pamh: 0x7f30e9cca190] STATE: ITEM(PAM_SERVICE) = sshd (0x7f30e9cbf250) Apr 22 16:21:23 ben sshd[10932]: pam_winbind(sshd:auth): [pamh: 0x7f30e9cca190] STATE: ITEM(PAM_USER) = anton (0x7f30e9cc1f80) Apr 22 16:21:23 ben sshd[10932]: pam_winbind(sshd:auth): [pamh: 0x7f30e9cca190] STATE: ITEM(PAM_TTY) = ssh (0x7f30e9cdb0d0) Apr 22 16:21:23 ben sshd[10932]: pam_winbind(sshd:auth): [pamh: 0x7f30e9cca190] STATE: ITEM(PAM_RHOST) = client.example.com (0x7f30e9cdb0b0) Apr 22 16:21:23 ben sshd[10932]: pam_winbind(sshd:auth): [pamh: 0x7f30e9cca190] STATE: ITEM(PAM_AUTHTOK) = 0x7f30e9cd8ef0 Apr 22 16:21:23 ben sshd[10932]: pam_winbind(sshd:auth): [pamh: 0x7f30e9cca190] STATE: ITEM(PAM_CONV) = 0x7f30e9cd8ed0 Apr 22 16:21:25 ben sshd[10932]: Failed password for anton from 192.168.20.100 port 58950 ssh2 Apr 22 16:21:27 ben sshd[10932]: Connection closed by 192.168.20.100 [preauth] - - After seeing that the line before the first error was about request a FILE krb5 ccache, I successfully tried with a different credential cache type (krb5_ccache_type=KEYRING) for pam_winbind in /etc/pam.d/common-auth: - + After seeing that the line before the first error was about request a + FILE krb5 ccache, I successfully tried with a different credential cache + type (krb5_ccache_type=KEYRING) for pam_winbind in /etc/pam.d/common- + auth: Apr 22 16:23:34 ben sshd[10946]: pam_unix(sshd:auth): authentication failure; logname= uid=0 euid=0 tty=ssh ruser= rhost=client.example.com user=anton Apr 22 16:23:34 ben sshd[10946]: pam_winbind(sshd:auth): [pamh: 0x7ff5b1619110] ENTER: pam_sm_authenticate (flags: 0x0001) Apr 22 16:23:34 ben sshd[10946]: pam_winbind(sshd:auth): [pamh: 0x7ff5b1619110] STATE: ITEM(PAM_SERVICE) = sshd (0x7ff5b160e080) Apr 22 16:23:34 ben sshd[10946]:

[Bug 1314697] [NEW] Upon upgrade, DNS resolution no longer works
Public bug reported: Upgraded from Trusty latest to Utopic latest, and rebooted. DNS resolution no longer worked. I.e. ping google.com failed, ping 8.8.8.8 suceeded. dnsmasq is running, and port 53 is open. Turned on log queries and log dhcp then attempted to ping google. Extract from syslog is attached. I have now worked around this by adding nameserver 8.8.8.8 to /etc/resolv.conf. I am aware this is not a sustainable workaround as this file is automatically generated. [Bug 1312936] Re: Post-installation script fails
I ran into this problem when I fired up an AWS EC2 micro instance (which provides 512MB) with trusty and, on my brand spanking new server, tried to run sudo apt-get install mysql-server-5.6. I tried Arnaud's suggestion on another brand spanking new micro trusty server, but no luck. However, when I fired up a trusy VM with 2GB of memory using Oracle VM Virtualbox, the MySQL 5.6 installation sailed through without a hitch. So memory certainly does appear to be the issue. In practice this sure does suggest that there's no longer a way to load the latest LTS version of Ubuntu Server onto an EC2 micro instance and then install the latest version of MySQL that's available via apt- get -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to mysql-5.6 in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1312936 Title: Post-installation script fails To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mysql-5.6/+bug/1312936/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 1314697] Re: Upon upgrade, DNS resolution no longer works
Assuming you are using NetworkManager, a better way to work around the problem than editing resolv.conf by hand is to edit /etc/NetworkManager/NetworkManager.conf and comment out the line `dns=dnsmasq`, save, and then `restart network-manager`. This will cause NetworkManager not to use a slave instance of dnsmasq as a local forwarding nameserver. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to dnsmasq in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1314697 Title: Upon upgrade, DNS resolution no longer works To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/dnsmasq/+bug/1314697/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 1314740] [NEW] awk in startup script finds wrong pid
Public bug reported: After upgrading a server from 12.04 to 14.04 I found that the nginx web server wasn't starting automatically. I could start the server without error from the command line. Running sudo /etc/init.d/nginx start would produce no visible error, but the service would not be started. Running sudo /etc/init.d/nginx restart produces a visible fail error. The nginx startup script (/etc/init.d/nginx) includes this line: PID=$(awk -F'[ \t;]+' '/[^#]pid/ {print $2}' /etc/nginx/nginx.conf) This is intended to find this line (or similar) in the nginx.conf file: pid /var/run/nginx.pid; My nginx.conf file includes this map directive: map $http_user_agent $is_bot { default 0; ~*(crawl|Google|Slurp|bingbot|tracker|click|parser|spider|msnbot|Gigabot) 1; } The issue is that awk returns the line that includes spider, which creates an incorrect value for the location of the pid file, and the startup script fails. The version of /etc/init.d/nginx provided with 12.04 did not inlcude this awk command and the startup script worked without error. $ lsb_release -rd Description:Ubuntu 14.04 LTS Release:14.04 $ sudo nginx -v nginx version: nginx/1.4.6 (Ubuntu) $ ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 14.04 Package: nginx 1.4.6-1ubuntu3 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 3.13.0-24.46-generic 3.13.9 Uname: Linux 3.13.0-24-generic x86_64 ApportVersion: 2.14.1-0ubuntu3 Architecture: amd64 Date: Wed Apr 30 13:30:35 2014 Dependencies: InstallationDate: Installed on 2014-01-30 (90 days ago) InstallationMedia: Ubuntu-Server 12.04.3 LTS Precise Pangolin - Release amd64 (20130820.2) PackageArchitecture: all ProcEnviron: SHELL=/bin/bash TERM=xterm PATH=(custom, no user) LANG=en_US.UTF-8 XDG_RUNTIME_DIR=set SourcePackage: nginx UpgradeStatus: Upgraded to trusty on 2014-04-25 (4 days ago) ** Affects: nginx (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: amd64 apport-bug trusty -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to nginx in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1314740 Title: awk in startup script finds wrong pid To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nginx/+bug/1314740/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 1314686] Re: Please add support for utopic
I think this issue can be fixed by 1. make utopic packages for 1.18.1 in the stable ppa 2. run assemble-public-tools for 1.18.1 again 3. publish the tools 4. tell streams.canonical.com to publish 1.18.1 But how do the packages in ports become tools? The assembly script knows utopic is the devel series, and series-ambiguous package will be classified as a utopic tool. so streams.canonical.com might make new tools using the old packages. ** Changed in: juju-core Status: New = Triaged ** Changed in: juju-core Importance: Undecided = High ** Changed in: juju-core Assignee: (unassigned) = Curtis Hovey (sinzui) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to juju-core in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1314686 Title: Please add support for utopic To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/juju-core/+bug/1314686/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 1307778] Re: getent group on trusty returns only local groups
Just to add a few data points, we've been running Winbind for years to use accounts from our university's domain. We don't have Domain Admin access though so a lot of accounts belong to AD groups out of our control and that we can't assign GIDs to. This has never been an issue because Winbind would not report membership in such groups to Linux. Compare the output of Ubuntu 12.04 and 14.04 for the same account: ### 12.04 + winbind 2:3.6.3-2ubuntu2.10 truffle:~$ groups mhatrak mhatrak : domain users ling-mayberrylab BUILTIN\users truffle:~$ id mhatrak uid=100051358(mhatrak) gid=513(domain users) groups=513(domain users),1310022(ling-mayberrylab),287(BUILTIN\users) ### 14.04 + winbind 2:4.1.6+dfsg-1ubuntu2 enoki:~$groups mhatrak mhatrak : domain users groups: cannot find name for group ID 4294967295 4294967295 groups: cannot find name for group ID 4294967295 4294967295 ling-mayberrylab libuuid enoki:~$id mhatrak uid=100051358(mhatrak) gid=513(domain users) groups=513(domain users),4294967295,4294967295,1310022(ling- mayberrylab),101(libuuid) The new behavior breaks sudo because it can't verify all the groups. It may be that this is the only program affected but I haven't done any exhaustive testing. enoki:~$sudo bash sudo: unable to set runas group vector: Invalid argument Interestingly, SSSD works better now. It also reports an error but at least sudo is still functional. ### 14.04 + sssd 1.11.5-1ubuntu3 porcini:~$ groups mhatrak mhatrak : groups: cannot find name for group ID 102 102 ling-mayberrylab domain users porcini:~$ id mhatrak uid=100051358(mhatrak) gid=102 groups=102,1310022(ling-mayberrylab),513(domain users) porcini:~$ sudo bash porcini:~# It seems to me the old Winbind behavior is desirable. There's little point in telling the OS about group membership for groups that are not going to work due to their lack of a GID. It should be easy to filter them out automatically or at least provide an option to do so. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to samba in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1307778 Title: getent group on trusty returns only local groups To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/samba/+bug/1307778/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs
[Bug 1313785] Re: Can't SSH with juju ssh command to EC2 instance.
I am not able to reproduce this. juju ssh will now ssh to machine 0's public address directly, and then proxy through that to machine 0's internal address. This is to support environments where machines do not have unique public addresses (i.e. with load balancing). Can you please ssh to the machine directly and then check whether you can resolve ip-172-31-21-242.us-west-2.compute.internal. If that does not resolve, that would indicate a problem with EC2. If it *does* resolve, then please try juju ssh again with --debug and attach the output. ** Changed in: juju-core Status: Triaged = Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to juju in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1313785 Title: Can't SSH with juju ssh command to EC2 instance. [Bug 1314859] [NEW] segfault in slapd when using ldapadd
Public bug reported: I am using ubuntu 12.04 with slapd/ldap-utils at version 2.4.28-1.1ubuntu4.4. When using ldapadd type command, I am getting segfault and slapd process crashing(killing the ldap server). Apr 30 23:44:44 spine2core slapd[12720]: is_entry_objectclass(, 2.16.840.1.113730.3.2.6) no objectClass attribute Apr 30 23:44:44 spine2core kernel: [25247.781818] slapd[12838]: segfault at 7f01e1e69710 ip 7f01e1bc5d07 sp 7f01d8a8f0e0 error 7 in slapd[7f01e1b41000+128000] This only happens on a particular scenario whereby I load up a DN whilst slapd is stopped using slapadd/ldif file, this DN is an orphan object with parent not in directory (or ldif file). Example: dn: uniqueidentifier=a, uid=b, ou=People, o=xyz First, we setup ou=People, o=xyz, then the ldif file has the above DN only but the parent dn: uid=b, ou=People, o=xyz does not exist in the ldif file. So slapadd inserts this orphan object in LDAP with warning. When I try to insert the parent object dn: uid=b, ou=People, o=xyz using ldapadd, it throws the seg fault and crashes (doing the same offline again using slapadd works fine). Any ideas please? [Bug 1170585] Re: whitelist incorrect rule
I'm just a regular naxsi user like you are and not developer/maintainer ... but here's my take on the issue: Naxsi version 0.45 is included with nginx-naxsi 1.1.19 You have used nx_util intended for naxsi version 0.50. Yes, nx_util will run just fine, it will read your error.log and generate white-list rules with a syntax that is compatible with naxsi version 0.50 Documentation that covers old versions of naxsi is hard to find. But it's not unlikely that there are some minor difference between the wl-rule syntax in naxsi v0.45 and v0.50 o. If you tried to use a white-list tool for naxsi version 0.45 it will be possible to confirm or exclude version differences as source of the error. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to nginx in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1170585 Title: whitelist incorrect rule To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nginx/+bug/1170585/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs
