[Bug 1313550] Re: ping does not work as a normal user on trusty tarball cloud images.
This also affects the `gnome-keyring` package. The System76 imaging system (Tribble) uses a tar-based approach similar to the MAAS fast-path installer, and we've had to add a work-around for /usr/bin/gnome- keyring-daemon on our desktop images: $ getcap /usr/bin/gnome-keyring-daemon /usr/bin/gnome-keyring-daemon = cap_ipc_lock+ep I reckon there are other imaging systems out there likewise affected by this. I strongly feel that the correct fix is to fix tar so its --xattrs option works as expected. But in the meantime, it might be good to switch back to using suid on /usr/bin/gnome-keyring-daemon. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to the bug report. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1313550 Title: ping does not work as a normal user on trusty tarball cloud images. [Bug 1315402] Re: No easy way to use hugetlbfs with QEMU

On Saucy, the upstart job for qemu-kvm contains this: # mount hugepages if available and requested if [ "$KVM_HUGEPAGES" -eq "1" ]; then if ! grep -q hugetlbfs /proc/filesystems; then logger -t qemu-kvm "Error: hugepages not available in the kernel!" elif grep -q /run/hugepages/kvm /proc/mounts; then logger -t qemu-kvm "/run/hugepages/kvm already mounted" elif ! grep -q kvm /etc/group; then logger -t qemu-kvm "Error: group kvm does not exist!" else kvmgid=`grep kvm /etc/group | cut -d: -f 3` mkdir -p /run/hugepages/kvm mount -t hugetlbfs hugetlbfs-kvm -o mode=775,gid=$kvmgid /run/hugepages/kvm fi fi But it seems there is nothing similar in Trusty and manually mounting the hugetlbfs doesn't help as qemu cannot find it there. After some more discussion we decided to simply make it setuid again for now and then spend some time thinking about a proper solution for all this, possibly involving small dpkg/debhelper changes so there's a cleaner nicer way of declaring filesystem capabilities. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to the bug report. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1313550 Title: ping does not work as a normal user on trusty tarball cloud images. [Bug 1313550] Please test proposed package
Hello Clint, or anyone else affected, Accepted iputils into trusty-proposed. The package will build now and be available at http://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/iputils/3:20121221-4ubuntu1.1 in a few hours, and then in the -proposed repository. Please help us by testing this new package. See https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation how to enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this update out to other Ubuntu users. If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug, mentioning the version of the package you tested, and change the tag from verification-needed to verification-done. If it does not fix the bug for you, please add a comment stating that, and change the tag to verification-failed. In either case, details of your testing will help us make a better decision. [Bug 1317093] [NEW] duplicated init-script, systemv seems broken
Public bug reported: It seems like there is both an upstart config (/etc/init/mysql) and a systemv initscript (/etc/init.d/mysql) installed in this package. I guess the correct would be to let /etc/init.d/mysql be a symlink til /lib/init/upstart-job. What's worse, "/etc/init.d/mysql stop" doesn't seem to kill the mysql- process. What's even worse, at one point we had two mysqld-processes running after executing "/etc/init.d/mysql start". I've verified that the upstart config works. ** Affects: mysql-5.5 (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to mysql-5.5 in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1317093 Title: duplicated init-script, systemv seems broken To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mysql-5.5/+bug/1317093/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs
[Bug 1317090] [NEW] qemu fails on ELF files with no section headers
Public bug reported: Using the latest version of qemu-user-static from trusty, 2.0.0+dfsg- 2ubuntu1. Reported to qemu and patch submitted long ago by the guy who wrote http://www.devttys0.com/2011/12/qemu-vs-sstrip/ but apparently dropped on the floor - at least, I can't find it in any qemu bug tracker anywhere. It's now keeping me from running openwrt binaries under qemu-arm-static (because the openwrt guys strip section headers to save space on their teeny embedded boxes). It's a one-line patch, reproduced here: --- qemu/linux-user/elfload.c 2011-12-02 15:16:07.637541215 -0500 +++ qemu-patched/linux-user/elfload.c 2011-12-02 15:27:24.061522798 -0500 @@ -1068,7 +1068,6 @@ static bool elf_check_ehdr(struct elfhdr return (elf_check_arch(ehdr->e_machine) && ehdr->e_ehsize == sizeof(struct elfhdr) && ehdr->e_phentsize == sizeof(struct elf_phdr) -&& ehdr->e_shentsize == sizeof(struct elf_shdr) && (ehdr->e_type == ET_EXEC || ehdr->e_type == ET_DYN)); } And I hope you'll consider patching ubuntu and maybe helping it get pushed upstream. [Bug 1316970] [NEW] g_dbus memory leak in lrmd
Public bug reported: I'm running Pacemaker 1.1.10+git20130802-1ubuntu1 on Ubuntu Saucy (13.10) and have encountered a memory leak in lrmd. The details of the bug are covered here in this thread (http://oss.clusterlabs.org/pipermail/pacemaker/2014-May/021689.html) but to summarise, the Pacemaker developers believe the leak is caused by the g_dbus API, the use of which was removed in Pacemaker 1.11. I've also attached the Valgrind output from the run that exposed the issue. Given that this issue affects production stability (a periodic restart of Pacemaker is required), will a version of 1.11 be released for Trusty? (I'm happy to upgrade the OS to Trusty to get it). If not, can you advise which version of the OS will be the first to take 1.11 please? ** Affects: pacemaker (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Attachment added: "Valgrind output" https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1316970/+attachment/4107044/+files/lrmd-dbg.tgz -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to pacemaker in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1316970 Title: g_dbus memory leak in lrmd To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/pacemaker/+bug/1316970/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs
