The system in question, along with several others, was recently
decommissioned and cannot be brought back online. (Honestly, we don't
even know which physical machine it was.)
This bug was trivially reproducible at the time that the report was
filed, but I no longer have the means of doing so.
I also ran into a bug in this area. I don't see the stack trace the
reporter of this bug go.

didn't know which to mark as duplicate so I'll leave that to someone
else.
And for those wondering, if you look closely at the patch you'll see
that where it has - signs you take out the relevant line, where it has
+ signs you add the relevant line.
On a fresh ubuntu 8.04 server 64 install the nis package and voila.
Upon further googleing I figured out that the problem lies with YPBIND and if I
remember correctly and it was a known issue.

No, I upgraded to autofs5 and that respecs the + entry in files like
/etc/passwd, /etc/groups, /etc/shadow, /etc/auto.master. Autofs5 did the trick.

package backuppc 3.1.0-4ubuntu1.1 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess
post-installation script returned error
yup, i could not fix it so i gave up and
i just login as root, change user and login as myself.
it slows the computer down but it works.
i would like to know of a fix if there is one..
