The group was created and paid for a year or so back, but for some
reason (paperwork or whatever) the renewal wasn't processed. It is in
hand and will be paid. So no need to pay.

I would welcome suggestions from anyone as to how this could be made 
to work without costing me money or would anyone else be willing to 
step up to the plate?

Not to my knowledge, no. Yes I have been to the local LUG and as nice as 
it is, it's just an excuse to have a drink and a meal out. It would be 
nice to attend a more focused meet. I don't think my local LUG has ever 
been particularly Linux focused, the last meet seemed to mainly focus 
around Theresa May!

Raspberry Pi Jams also have a large overlap with LUGs, and many cities
have a monthly Jam now.

Has there ever been a meeting?  It doesn't look like it.  Have you
considered going to a LUG meeting instead?  You may not find a
