Okay, so this just gets weirder.
I purge removed xsplash to ensure that wasn't the issue. It isn't.
Session type xterm works flawlessly, as did installing direct from menu
rather than live desktop.
Session type gnome dies a horrible flame death of fail.
In xterm I checked the res of the

run firefox-3.7 from terminal
end up with output attached

Stuck in Mirror Screen mode w/ Dual
Attached is a short video. The first part is the login to an xterm
session. The second attempt is a login to a gnome session. I think the
last frame got lopped off when I stopped the camera but effectively it
goes back to the login screen.

I've tried Cavedon's PPA a couple of times but it always produced
tearing even after reboot - so I downgraded back the packages that were
replaced.

Is get-edid or ddcprobe (xresprobe package) able to get the EDID
information? They should both be independent implementations from the

restored on resume if the laptop is NOT CONNECTED to the AC power. So

radeonhd package and also your xorg.conf, so that the default
-ati/-radeon driver can start.
