This warning happends randomly, as far as I can see. Even when the

KeithM, I came to think about one thing. We carry a not-bleeding-edge
xserver-xorg-video-intel (2.9.1) since that gives us possibility for
UMS fallback for people who have problems on their hardware and has
been very stable. It may be possible that a newer driver will be able
to not keep resetting
As for me, the bug is still there with xserver-xorg-core
2:1.6.4-2ubuntu4.2 on i386, have yet to check on amd64 at home.

After 20-30 minutes my screen becomes totally BLANK. The screen reports
«check your cables», and I do. The machine still runs, so I think
there's a kernel error that causes it. And afterwards I get this bug
when it's trying to report the other (real) bug.

In a dual display setup, with the external monitor at 1024x768 I can
reproduce any video by using totem or VLC.
If I change to the maximum resolution supported for the external display
(1280x1024), then VLC and Totem show no image (just sound) but

Happens on my Intel 845G graphics also (this is a common chipset). Like
people above said, it happens somewhat randomly. Sometimes it happens
during heavy use, sometimes it happens while i'm away from the computer.
The system is unreachable via the network and must be hard-reset.
