I wanted to update that I upgraded to 12.04 today and the problem persists.
Output of error when trying to enable all three monitors in 12.04:

I did some more fiddling and I'm fairly well convinced that this is
actually a 'gnome-screensaver' bug.
I first booted into an Lubuntu Precise and installed 'gnome-desktop-
environment' which I know is Gnome version 3.0 rather than the Gnome
version 3.2 + bits of 3.4 that Ubuntu Precise uses.
This bug was fixed in the package mesa - 8.0.4-1ubuntu1

The problem at post #41 is now solved, I successfully installed AMD drivers
manually, and hope it will solve the issue with lockups.
I couldn't install the driver untill I patched it as described in link below
Having the same problem on a Thinkpad T410s, also Intel graphics (Core i5).
I just tried to create a core dump, following the instructions of Lasse.
However when trying to reproduce the crash, I had a total lockup, with hard
reset needed. No /etc/X11/core was generated.

I just found the problem by me.
Crashes occured due to I/0 dropout on asus MB P6X58-E WS.
This happened about one time each hour. Pc worked fine during 9 months and
sudden it's start freezing. It was not a real freeze. As I still had graphical
screen and every program and service
I'm using 3.4.0-030400-generic from the mainline PPA and I haven't had
a single freeze since I installed it. I've been using the machine a
lot more than normal over the last week as well.

Today my grub2 decided to die. Who knows why. The solution? Boot from

Here, none of the media-keys bindings listed under ‹ org.gnome.settings-
daemon.plugins.media-keys › work.

My PC seems to idle for about 20 seconds during boot, the moving bar on
the splash screen freezes for that time. I'm using Xubuntu 12.04 amd64.
The 20 second delay is clearly visible in the attached bootchart,
seconds 21 to 41. This corresponds with two distinctive points on

If this issue is now known to be in gnome-screensaver and to be
independent of the graphics card/driver used by X, I'd think it might
help to edit the Affects stuff to reflect these facts :) I'd update
it, but I have not tested / duplicated the issue myself, and so I don't
feel I should be doing
This is happening for me as well. I'm using a MS Natural Wireless Laser
Mouse 6000 on Ubuntu 12.04 AMD64.
Really annoying. I got really used to this feature of the mouse (good
for when writing code and you don't have wrapping enabled).
