interesting. I have never tried to configure the monitor as this is my
projector display and not my laptop.
This is wierd as the bug you mentioned would suck for laptop / PC use
where you plug in and configure external displays somewhat regularly but
the bug that is the point of this

Almost a year passed and I upgraded the system first to 14.10. While on
14.10 I still had same issues. I blamed it on Intel's graphics driver I
installed as a trial but never found way to remove again. One month ago
I reinstalled 14.04LTS on new SSD as the system is now used as 7x24
production
Unfortunately, running Unity on this system makes doing my day job more
or less impossible, so I've switched to using the Gnome fallback
session. It's unlikely I'll have time to test this anytime soon.
