I agree Mir should not be providing fake modes just to address scaling.
Scaling should be done in the shell but using the real native mode of
the display for maximum visual quality.

Implementing this will degrade visual quality to some degree. And the
alternative I mentioned above won't. We will indeed implement this
still, but how is it a high priority compared to just correctly scaling
Unity8 and using the native/preferred display resolution for maximum
quality?

Nearly same effect to my HTPC (Geforce 8200 onboard). Workarounded with
#20 under "trusty" but fall back to 304.117-0ubuntu1 required since no
other package was available in the repo/cache any more. Afterwards my
HTPC works again.

Also I tested nvidia-304, version 304.132-0ubuntu2. I did it from zesty
