can you check it?

I saw your reference to the log from #2 and took a deeper look at it,
and saw this line:
[ 76855.829] (**) modeset(0): Option "AccelMethod" "glamor"
In my xorg.conf, I had Option "AccelMethod" "None" and hadn't thought
too hard about it because graphical acceleration worked with it set to
"None"
jorgens, thanks so much for reporting that!
With that information I found that I only had to copy a single file in Debian
(stretch/sid) to make the touchpad work flawlessly (using libinput instead of
synaptics):
cp /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/40-libinput.conf
/etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/90-libinput.conf

Thank you, it seems that your configuration helped with the trackpoint.
Do you have any suggestions regarding 1, 2 and 4?
Is it possible to add those settings to the GUI setting tab?

304.134 was available in the repository and so far looks like it fixes
the problems I had with 304.132.

I've backported the upstream fix to the Debian/Ubuntu package; Timo, are
you able to update the Ubuntu packages for 16.04 + and also apply it to
Debian package (I'll try to recall how to send the debdiff via email
into the Debian bug tracker).
** Changed in: xserver-xorg-input-libinput (Ubuntu)
The attachment "Debdiff containing backported upstream fix" seems to be
a debdiff. The ubuntu-sponsors team has been subscribed to the bug
report so that they can review and hopefully sponsor the debdiff. If
the attachment isn't a patch, please remove the "patch" flag from the
attachment, remove

Tested on Xenial, when trying to install libxcomposite-dev:i386, the
64bit version will be removed:

After struggling with this for a long time I found out that there is a
"new" driver for input devices: libinput, that replaces synaptics. I
followed the install instructions as given here:
