I tried xfce4-settings 4.12.1-11 as mentioned in #133 and indeed it "works", X
does not crash.
However, the set screen resolution is lost. When I turn on the screen again,
the desktop defaults to the highest possible screen resolution.
In my case, it means that my desktop menu bar and docky are

An observation:
I have two login accounts to the system, both have personalized desktop
backgrounds.
Normally, the greeter assigns the selected user's desktop background before
login.
When logging out now, the login greeter flickers and the default bluish

Tried to follow #26, but it seems I don't have any xorg.conf in my /etc/X11.

I have found that a workaround is to press Ctrl-Alt-F1 for a terminal
login, login as root and do:
service lightdm restart
This will invoke the graphical login screen, and I can log in as usual.

I am hesitant to upgrade, since this system is in a production environment.
Previous upgrades to 11.10 have in most cases been disastrous for us.
So I will wait until I am able to have a replacement system prepared for this

Investigating further, I found that disabling Monitors/Same image on all
screens, reveals that the Veriton regards itself as a Laptop (1024x768) with
an extra Philips (1280x1024) screen. However, selecting the Philips gives a
black monitor with a mouse only.
Obviously, it seems there is some

Disable the Laptop screen in Monitors.
Save as default.
Now the VGA-connected Philips 19 LCD works at the desired 1280x1024
resolution.
Works, but it is hardly the clean solution.
Why does Natty think the Acer Veriton N270G is a laptop in the first place? It

After upgrading to natty, my screen resolution was maximised to 1024x768, while
my monitor is 1280x1024.
