Experiencing the same issue on an Acer Aspire 6930G, the touchpad works
fine at the GDM login screen and then stops working after login.
Enabling/disabling the touchpad does not solve the problem.
It took a while for me to notice this bug as I also tend to default to a
USB optical mouse.

complete copies of the upstream source: one from the upstream tarball in
the xf86-video-displaylink subdirectory, and one in the src subdirectory

It just happened a third time, so a lot more frequent today.
This time I had a wee play. The screen I get sent to is tty2. On tty7 it
has a few lines that say unable to write bytes: Broken Pipe. On tty8
(which is where KDE usually is), there is nothing.
I stopped kdm. I tried to start it again,

To clarify, this is not an installed system, but rather the live CD
(actually the live USB stick) system installation image of Lucid Lynx
beta 1. It continues to be a problem in the nightly build I grabbed last
week.

Plymouth is not setting the resolution, all it's doing is opening and
using the 640x480 VGA framebuffer. That this changes the resolution

acpi-support is not involved in brightness hotkeys on the Vaios; and as
you say the OSD works, it's clearly not a problem with registration of
the hotkey anyway. This is a problem with the backlight control, which

I've had the same problem, with various related symptoms (See bugs I've
marked as duplicate of this one). I have Intel 945GME. This can be fixed
by uninstalling the nvidia drivers. The question is why the nvidia
drivers got installed in the first place.

The fix for the plymouth problems is still in progress and will
hopefully be resolved in the next few days; it's a deep issue that's
been taking up all the time of one of our developers to get to the
bottom of.

also, but I'm not

I upgraded to Lucid Netbook Edition on my eee 1008HA. The GDM greeter
shows a number of options. Ubuntu Netbook 2D loads fine. Logging into
Ubuntu Netbook loads the top panel, but not the desktop.
Running netbook-launcher manually gives:

Thanks for taking a look at this. Here's some more info: there's a
weirdness with vncviewer, too. I can't use my xmodmap on both the
viewed and the viewing machine. I can use it on the viewing machine,
but not the viewed machine. Things get confused; the machines soon
begin to disagree about

Can you explain what you mean by melting into the center of the
screen? I'm having a hard time visualizing this. Someone has assigned
this bug to the plymouth package, but the issue you describe doesn't
match any of

The messy notification in Lucid alpha2 isn't a bug, it's intentional
debugging code for the alpha. Upgrading to current lucid resolves this.
Can others confirmed that the original issue here is resolved in lucid?
