also, i forgot to mention that once gdm has loaded, all animated cursors
flicker... should i report this as a separate bug?

I think karmic xserver-xorg-video-intel update broke x on my intel 915
laptop.
I ran the update and I think I saw this package in the list... having
rebooted, I'm in 800x600, and getting some serious screen flicker... :/
i was
FIXED! :D I just ran more updates, rebooted, and it worked!FYI I think
it was xserver-xorg 1:7.4~5ubuntu20 and xserver-xorg-core
2:1.6.1.901-2ubuntu1 that were installed. All the best, thankyou!
