That is what i was always doing!
After each kernel update i reinstalled the driver. The problem is that the
updated kernel doesn't even boot anymore.
Or am i misunderstanding you explanations?

1. What do you mean unofficial? I downloaded it from the vendor's site.
2. And how can this be if the previous update were always working fine?
3. What is that module and how can it be built? Should i reinstall the driver?

We don't support hand-installed upstream drivers. Ubuntu provides a
driver version for Nvidia, and it's the only version that's supported.
When you install the vendor driver by hand, the installation script
builds the module for the current kernel ABI version, so you need to
