[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 971018] Re: Auto-hide Unity Launcher will not reveal when mouse pushed to left side in VirtualBox or VMware

2016-08-11 Thread Chris Cheney
This is still happening on 16.10 as expected due to the previous setting
of 'Opinion' the only way to work around this issue on VMWare
Workstation is to change the setting under Edit->Preferences->Input
Optimize mouse for games: Always. Disabling "Automatically grab and
ungrab the mouse cursor." does not fix the issue.

There probably should be an option for auto-hide to unhide on being near
the edge, it could be settable just in unity-tweak-tool...

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1568233] Re: BOINC doesn't recognize AMD/ATI GPU in 16.04 despite sudo /etc/init.d/boinc-client restart

2016-08-11 Thread Steve Hawker
I'm using Tahiti so I'll be waiting.

I tried to go back to 14.04 but ran into a whole bunch of hateful issues
there.

I really wish I'd never upgraded. This has been nothing but a complete
disaster. I will never buy another AMD GPU again and I am utterly
unimpressed by this "upgrade". The system knows I've got fglrx
installed, why on earth did it not warn me about the black hole I'd be
falling into? This is Microsoft-style nonsense. I'd come to expect
better from the Linux community.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1568233] Re: BOINC doesn't recognize AMD/ATI GPU in 16.04 despite sudo /etc/init.d/boinc-client restart

2016-08-11 Thread John Bridgman
Which GPU are you using ? If you are running a CI or VI part (Bonaire,
Hawaii, Tonga, Fiji etc..) then you can install the amdgpu hybrid stack
which is replacing fglrx, and get the same OpenCL driver. If you are
running an SI part (Cape Verde, Pitcairn or Tahiti) then we are still
working on that support so staying on 14.04 for a bit longer would be
good.

For older parts (anything pre-GCN) you will need to go back to a 14.04
LTS install for sure.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1568233] Re: BOINC doesn't recognize AMD/ATI GPU in 16.04 despite sudo /etc/init.d/boinc-client restart

2016-08-11 Thread Steve Hawker
I stupidly went ahead and installed 16.04 after weeks of being told
there was an "upgrade". What a complete lie. Losing a massive part of
my system is in no way an "upgrade"

16.04 not only took away fglrx but also your ability to run OpenCL apps
of which BOINC has a ton.

So, bottom line, if you have an AMD GPU do not install 16.04.

I'm probably going back to 14.04 and stick with Catalyst until my AMD
GPU dies, then I'm off to NVIDIA.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1568604] Re: Mouse cursor lost when unlocking with Intel graphics

2016-08-11 Thread Sean Davis
Bryan, thank you for taking the time to identify the commits that
correct the bug. I am able to reproduce the bug, and after applying the
patches, I can also confirm that the issue is resolved.

I've merged the 4 commits you identified into a single patch (preserve-
mouse-cursor-after-vt-switch.patch) and have provided the attached
debdiff. If we can organize a significant amount of testing, can we
consider getting these changes into Xenial?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1576163] Re: Libreoffice crashes when opening a dialog

2016-08-11 Thread Richard King
I experience this issue with Ubuntu 16.04 on an Asus UX303LN laptop. The
temporary fix of installing xserver-xorg-video-intel seems to work for
me too.

I can provide log-files or test fixes if that would help us resolve the
problem.

Is bug #1575301 a duplicate of this one?

Yes, on an unmodified Ubuntu system installed from 14.04.3 the -vivid

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1610434] Re: Ubuntu GNOME Trusty HWE upgrade fails to install libwayland-egl1-mesa-lts-xenial

2016-08-11 Thread Brian Murray
** Description changed:

+ Test Case
+ -
+ 1) Install libwayland-egl1-mesa-lts-(utopic|vivid)
+ 2) Install update-manager from Trusty -proposed
+ 3) Run hwe-support-status --show-replacements
+ 4) Ensure libwayland-egl1-mesa-lts-xenial shows up as a replacement
+
+ We should also verify that if libwayland-egl1-mesa-lts-(utopic|vivid) is
+ not installed that the equivalent -xenial version is not shown as a
+ replacement or installed.
+
Updated info; You should be able to reproduce this as follows:

Step #1: Install Ubuntu GNOME 14.04.2, 14.04.3, or 14.04.4. Boot into
the fresh installation when complete and apply all available updates via
UI, then reboot when instructed. It seems important to apply the post-
install updates via UI rather than using the terminal!

Step #2: Enable trusty-proposed, update the cache and run "apt-get
install update-manager". (That will update the components needed to
display HWE EOL notifications). Then disable trusty-proposed, set Notify
me of a new release to Never, and update the apt cache again.

Step #3: Based on recent tests completing step #2 should be enough to
launch the HWE EOL upgrade notification in which case you just need to
choose to install the HWE upgrade and reboot when prompted.

If the HWE EOL notification fails to appear close any open update or
notifier UI, then from terminal run "apt-get update" followed by
"update-manager". If the HWE EOL notification still fails to appear then
I'll have to go back to the drawing board.

  Original content begins here:

Having updated update-manager from trusty-proposed yesterday I booted
into Ubuntu GNOME Trusty w/Utopic HWE and update-notifier told me that
my HWE was EOL so I accepted the upgrade. Everything seemed to complete
successfully and I was notified to reboot. Upon doing so boot freezes
with the message "Restoring resolver state". I was unsure what package
to file this against and since I can't boot that install I was unable to
file using ubuntu-bug anyway. This freeze occurs whether trying to boot
the lts-xenial kernel or the older lts-utopic kernel.

I can collect info as needed, the only useful info I see in the logs in
from apt/history beginning with the update-manager update yesterday and
ending with the HWE EOL upgrade just a short time ago:

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1308105] Re: Xfce resets TV mode to NULL when power cycled

2016-08-11 Thread Ian Young
The patch in comment #53 works for me too, meaning that the desktop
remains visible after power cycling my receiver. However, the MythTV
frontend disappears (but the process is still running, according to ps).
mythfrontend.log doesn't provide any clues as to what is happening at
the time the receiver is turned off, either. I guess I could upgrade to
Mythbuntu 16.04 but I'm expecting to encounter new problems then, such
as no more 32-bit Chrome.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1612241] [NEW] Display blinking on MST Dual Monitors

2016-08-11 Thread Antony Jones
Public bug reported:

I have two Dell U2715H monitors, one running in MST 2.0 mode, one
running in MST 1.0 mode (the terminator).

My laptop is plugged via mini display port into the MST 2.0 enabled
monitor. The MST 1.0 monitor is daisychained from displayport out on the
MST 2.0 monitor, to the displayport in on the MST 1.0 monitor.

I'm using the default cabling provided with the monitors.
I am running Ubuntu 16.04
The laptop is a Dell XPS 13 9333 - it is plugged into the mains.
Cables are not loose.

The setup works almost without issue, but:

Actual Result:
1. The monitors take it in turns to blink once - off, then back on, for 4
seconds at a time, seemingly randomly.
2. Any given monitor often blinks off, 4 seconds, then on when pressing play on
a youtube video
3. Any given monitor usually blinks off, 4 seconds, then on when dragging a
window from the other monitor, onto it.

Expected result:
Monitors should be constantly on, at all times.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1316873] Re: Left mouse button stops working

2016-08-11 Thread George
Had this problem for an age and found no resolution. Followed #11's
issue source and unplugged my headset and USB dongle and mouse
immediately started working perfectly. I would suggest people remove any
other input devices and see if there is a clash somewhere.
