I think I've found the reason, but not the solution. I've put a Section "Monitor" Identifier "eDP-1" Option "Rotate" "normal" EndSection into /etc/X11/xorg.conf, which did not help. but then I noticed that this notebook comes with a flippable screen made for Win10 to be used as a tablet. When

Never mind - I figured out how to recompile the source Onboard package for Debian 10 and was able to incorporate sonald's (yinshuiboy) patch (see post #8) into updated .deb installation files. I have zipped this updated version and it is attached for anyone who may find it useful. Thanks! **

You have been subscribed to a public bug: After reboot I can see wrong scaling factor for icons, etc., although after opening Gnome Tweaks -> Fonts, I can verify that the Scaling Factor is set to 1,00. Changing it (by '+' or '-') to 1,01 or 0,99 and back to 1,00 recovers proper scaling.
