The underlying problem here is that the GPU is locked up. Nouveau
doesn't have the same sort of GPU hang detection that Intel (or Radeon,
for that matter) have, so what happens is that any time something tries
to touch the card it never gets a reply. After a while, X notices, and
you get a EQ
What I have tried so far is to open kubuntu systemsettings and click on
the display kcm. The multiple monitors screen there contains only a
label saying This module is only for configuring systems with a single
desktop spread across multiple monitors. You do not appear to have this
configuration.
I'm not sure why this was assigned to nouveau; both reports seem to be
using the nvidia binary drivers.
You might find that this works better if you don't set “vga=…” on the
kernel prompt.

On my macbook what happens is once one finger is on the pad it will still react
with movement when the second finger is put onto the pad or taken off the pad.
So unless you place both on and off together you get the jumping movement.

With 2 my two monitors in twin mode, the left monitor flashes every few

Had same problem on acer aspire laptop.
touchpad worked, then stopped working for my user only. When logging in
with my son's user, the touchpad worked fine. So went with the deleting
the .gnome2, gconf etc etc solution as it seemed to be user specific and

I also am experiencing this bug with an encrypted Lucid desktop with an
ATI Radeon HD 2400. It happens invariably when logged out and
