I can confirm this on natty with 2.6.38-8-generic-pae (Dell XPS M1530,
GeFore 8600M GT). The proprietary driver works fine. Incidentally this
made the upgrade process from maverick to natty very difficult, as for
some reason it tried to enable nouveau even though I had the proprietary
drivers
These patches are vast, that makes them a trick proposition for us to
take into the Ubuntu kernel without there being solid acceptance
upstream. I do not yet see them in v2.6.39-rc's, does anyone know if
they are being discussed for inclusion in mainline yet?

The reason that Nvidia GeForce FX 5200 will not work on Unity is because it's
blacklisted by nux-tools, wich verifies if your graphics card is supported. All
Nvidia FX models are blacklisted and some other Nvidia models too. To see if

You won't be using Unity anymore, but it *should* fix the crashes. I

after I login my Desktop does not come up.. The mouse indicator just
continues to spins. I have observed if I wait about 5 minutes my

xf86OpenConsole: VT_WAITACTIVE
I wiped everything and tried straight Debian Squeeze. The touchpad
works in the live-cd but not once you have installed it.
I then tried Xubuntu 11.04 (though my sound-card stopped working, that
is much less important to me). So the touchpad works under Xubuntu but
not under Gnome-Ubuntu.

I experiences a different bug that may be linked to this one : when I plug my
TV on external VGA display, gnome monitors settings shows only 640x480,
800x600, 1024x768 as possible dimensions for my TV.
It is a regression, because under Maverick, I can set 1366x768 and other 16/9
dimensions. A
