[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 937375] [NEW] there appears to be no working drivers available for this video card.

2012-02-20 Thread J Dumass
Public bug reported:

What else would you like me to say? There is is ample documentation
available of my dialogue with the Canonical people while working on
this. Simply, Ubuntu 11.1 does not recognize the ATI video card in my
computer so the display is corrupted when the machine boots up. By
pressing the Fn+F7 keys (twice) I can obtain a workable display but I
have no idea of what this keypress sequence is actually doing. The hope
is to get the OS to recognize the video card and boot into a normal
display...

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 936782] [NEW] No longer working in precise

2012-02-20 Thread Clint Byrum
Public bug reported:

This driver, IMO, is far superior to the synaptics driver. I have far
more accidental clicks with the synaptics driver, and two finger
scrolling, three finger taps, etc, all worked great with the mtrack
driver.

The recent Xorg upgrade seems to have disabled the mtrack driver... I
had to remove it and install xserver-xorg-input-synaptics to get
trackpad functionality again. Perhaps mtrack should be considered as a
better replacement for synaptics, or synaptics blacklisted for Apple
Trackpads in favor of whatever else works but does not suffer from
nearly crippling palm-induced taps.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 936528] Re: computer running slow

2012-02-20 Thread Paolo Rotolo
Thank you for taking the time to report this issue and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Examining the information you have given us, this does
not appear to be a bug report so we are closing it. We understand the
difficulties you are facing, but it is better to raise problems you are
having in the support tracker at https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu if
you are uncertain if they are bugs. You can also find a valid support at
http://askubuntu.com or posting your question in the support forum of
your local Ubuntu's community. For help on reporting bugs, see

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 936858] [NEW] Scaled video displays only blank screen

2012-02-20 Thread Craig McQueen
Public bug reported:

If I try to play any video (DVD, AVI files, whatever) with Movie Player,
then it usually gives me a blank screen. However, if I select a 1:1 zoom
or 1:2 zoom or something like that, it does seem to show it. But then it
disappears again when a DVD chapter change occurs. It seems that video
scaling isn't working.

didn't try 11.04).

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 936856] [NEW] Multitouch axes have wrong values and ranges on Apple Macbook trackpads

2012-02-20 Thread Chase Douglas
Public bug reported:

The same valuator axes are used for both single-touch pointer motion and
multitouch X events. This means the axis ranges and values must be the
same for single-touch and multitouch events. Apple Macbook trackpads
report different axis ranges and values from the kernel driver. The X
synaptics module needs to scale the the single touch axes to the higher
resolution multitouch axes.

** Affects: xserver-xorg-input-synaptics (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Medium

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 936893] [NEW] xorg segfaults with multiseat configuration

2012-02-20 Thread Fabian Köster
Public bug reported:

I am trying to enable a multiseat-configuration with Precise but Xorg
segfaults, probably because of some of the input-device declarations.
This configuration works with Ubuntu Oneiric so it is probably a
regression.

If I do not use a xorg.conf the xserver starts fine (of course without
multiseat setup then).

I also found some strangeness with edge scrolling, sometimes it
generated spurious events in the opposite direction (i.e. scroll down

This bug did not exist on Ubuntu 11.10 with default X stack.

The pointer sometimes keeps moving in the same direction when the finger stops,
and the pointer moves too fast.
Small and precise movements are unpredictable, so the touchpad is nearly
unusable for text edit, or even clicking on window controls.
I had to set speed and acceleration to the lowest value to use this touchpad,
but this is not even a real workaround.

I know this bug is known on the debian and archlinux bugtrackers, users
report the same issue on launchpad.

I get the following outputs :

Any love on this yet? Also affects my Netbook:

eMachines eM250 upgraded to 11-10 from original install of 9.10
Intel Atom CPU N270 1.60GHz
InsydeH20 BIOS

... why would this bug be considered of low importance, requiring a

I can confirm this bug with a different Sandy Bridge laptop (Dell XPS
15).

With more and more Sandy Bridge laptops being released I think this
counts as high priority.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 933710] Re: Laptops with eDP panels do not suspend when lid closed

2012-02-20 Thread Seth Forshee
I added the upstream bug watch. However I'm not in agreement with the
reclassification of this as high. This bug means that someone could
close their laptop lid and think the machine is suspended when it isn't,
which can have severe consequences. It's also a regression due to the
recent changes in g-s-d.

I'm also adding xserver-xorg-video-intel to the bug, as I'm beginning to
think the root cause of the issue may lie here. libgnome-desktop first
queries with RandR to see whether or not the output drives a laptop
panel, and obviously this is failing to report the status correctly. I
see that there's some code in intel_display.c that's commented out to
treat eDP similarly to LVDS, due to a bug [1] that marked as being
fixed. It's a guess, but maybe this is why RandR fails to recognize the
eDP output as driving a laptop panel?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 731424] Re: X crashes when I set a Python Tkinter edit control to display a long text string in 25pt DejaVu font

2012-02-20 Thread Silas S. Brown
This bug mysteriously seems to have returned on my old Ubuntu 11.04 box
(which is still taking security updates); is it possible that the 11.04
package has regressed?

X11 crashes when a 25pt Tk input box contains a lot of text and you
click in it and press Home, or Control-A for Select All.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 926379] Re: compiz crashed with SIGSEGV in intel_miptree_release()

2012-02-20 Thread Bryce Harrington
Crashing in mesa around here:

mesa-git-ubuntu/src/mesa/drivers/dri/i915/intel_context.c:
/* Release the buffer storage now in case we have to return early

* due to failure to allocate new storage.

*/
   if (buffer-attachment == __DRI_BUFFER_HIZ) {
  intel_miptree_release(rb-mt-hiz_mt);
   } else {
  intel_miptree_release(rb-mt);
   }

Guess it's a regression in mesa 8? Probably should go upstream; would
be helpful to know steps to reproduce first though.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] Freeze trying to playback youtube/flash

2012-02-20 Thread p . t p . t

Hi,
I'm having some problems trying to playback youtube/flash movies on my Zotac
ND-22 (Nvidia ION) on ubuntu 10.10, with nvidia drivers from
repo: http://ppa.launchpad.net/ubuntu-x-swat/x-updates/ubuntu maverick main
Movie examples, i.e. does not
work:http://svtplay.se/t/103430/agendahttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S2wAMaM2OYQ
It seems work if i disable hw-acceleration (rightclick movie-setting-uncheck
hw acc), if hw-acceleration is enabled the browser freezes and i have a hard
time even accessing the flash settings menu. This happen both both using google
chrome and firefox, for firefox i have tried different versions of flash but
nothing helps.
Does anyone have any solution to my problem, or could guide me how to properly
submit a bug report, i.e. which logs will you need, system information etc. I
will gladly assist in any way i can!
BRPeter

- (login3d and 2d png screenshot). When logging into Ubuntu 2D it the same

2012-02-20 Thread Zach Burnham
apport information

** Tags added: apport-collected compiz-0.9 precise reproducible ubuntu

** Description changed:

- For example, when moving a window or selecting text in a document. Using
- touchpad, I expected to click and hold while moving the cursor, and to
- have the click end when lifting my finger. This is how it used to work
- before recent updates. But now the click is still held and it isn't
- ended until I tap on the touchpad once again. It's quite a painful bug
- that would affect many users.

2012-02-20 Thread dum
I have the same artifacts, I have a acer timeline 4810 with a ati 4310 graphic
card.
So not only Nvidia has this problem i guess.

First started when the compiz update was installed. (a week ago i think it was)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 931488] [NEW] Touchpad and trackpoint glitches on Lenovo Thinkpad L520

2012-02-20 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

When I first installed Oneiric, both touchpad and trackpoint worked fine
(almost): both pointing devices were listed in Pointing devices application,
settings like scrolling emulation for trackpoint and two-finger scrolling for
touchpad worked too.
The only problem was lost synchronization message in log which were
accompanied by temporary (1-3 secs) freeze of pointer from time to time
(approximately one time per 10 minutes). Both pointing devices successfully
survived suspend-to-ram.

Recent update has changed all.
Here is excerpt from package list change of etckeeper:

date:Fri Jan 20 00:33:16 2012 +0700
Package changes:
-libgudev-1.0-0 1:173-0ubuntu4

# Now both trackpoint and touchpad doesn't work right after boot in half of
cases.
# Even if they work after boot, they often stop working after approximately an
hour of uptime.
# Even if they work after an hour of uptime, they loose scrolling function and
start detecting as mouse, not touchpad/trackpoint.
# Additionally instead of random freezes trackpoint now goes crazy and starts
jumping on screen and clicking everywhere for two seconds.
# Both trackpoint and touchpad don't survive suspend-to-ram.
# Sometimes when trackpoint works after boot it behaves very strange: pushing
stick to the left causes pointer to move to the left but then immediately move
back half of runned way.

Pointing devices are almost completely unusable now!

What I've tried:
# Load older kernel - doesn't work.
# sudo modprobe -r psmouse sudo modprobe psmouse - doesn't work
# Turn off disable touchpad on typing - doesn't work

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 933707] Re: Pressure issues

2012-02-20 Thread Smittix
Issue #1 Affects me on a Samsung RF511 Really badly. I have to press
down quite hard on my touchpad for it to work. It works fine under
windows.

It is also detected correctly and two fingered scrolling works fine too.
Just the general use is bad and not responsive at all.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 937307] [NEW] mouse pointer keeps moving when finger motion stops on synaptics touchpad

2012-02-20 Thread Jane Atkinson
Public bug reported:

This is on an up-to-date 12.04 install on an Asus EeePC 900. I'm using
openbox as the window manager. I notice the same behaviour on a fairly
standard 12.04 with Gnome fallback.

I'm finding the touchpad almost impossible to use. The mouse pointer
will not stop when I stop my finger motion, unless I lift my finger off
the pad altogether. Even then, sometime the mouse pointer keeps moving.
That makes small boxes such as maximise, minimise and close especially
difficult to use.

I tend not to use the touchpad anyway, preferring a mouse, so I can't
say exactly when this started happening. I know that it does not occur
in 10.04.

I have the tap-to-click function disabled in both installs, because that
is extremely sensitive to the slightest touch.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 933707] Re: Pressure issues

2012-02-20 Thread Neil Broadley
I create a script called syn.sh containing just :

synclient FingerLow=3
synclient FingerHigh=8

Then make it executable and place the execution of that script in
Startup Programs.

Actually, I think those values make the touchpad too sensitive on my
system, because there's no palm-rest detection, so the slightest touch
while typing sets the mouse twitching.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 921321]

2012-02-20 Thread Walther
I repeated testing using kernel 3.3.0 RC4, and results are similar:

nvapeek (before):
e100: 001c1100
e28c: 0100
e104: 72267640 0441474b
e280: 4747

After:
e100: 001c1100
e28c: 0100
e104: 72267240 0441474b
e280: 4747

Compared to the previous version, the only change is that 0x1000 was
added to 0xe104 (and 0x400 is still unset on resume). And, of course,
brightness controls ceased to response after resuming.

PS: What still worries me is that after resuming nvagetbios still fails,
that is a definite vbios bug/corruption somewhere, isn't it...

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 937340] [NEW] AMD FGLRX Driver: Black Screen with Reboot of prev. kernel

2012-02-20 Thread Karsten Voges
Public bug reported:

Observations:

1. This FGLRX driver can be installed with the 3.0.0-15 PAE 32 Bit kernel. BUT:
a) To load a prevous kernel version via GRUB fails due to a black screen at
login. b) the Gnome Shell has damaged fonts as shown in the attached
screenshot. This seems to be a new problem.
2. The installation of a driver update (system settings/additional
drivers/FGLRX driver update) fails because the package cannot be found.
3. After installation of the ATI/AMD proprietary grahics driver with kernel
3.3RC3 and reboot: cryptsetup login works but no login screen but black screen
instead. uname -r: 3.3.0-030300rc3-generic-pae. The atempt to load a previous
kernel via GRUB (kernel 3.0.0-15 PAE 32 bit) also fails. That means that the
complete system hang due to the graphics driver problem. Solution was to do a
failsafe login via GRUB and uninstall the FGLRX drivers: apt-get purge
fglrx-amdcccle, apt-get purge fglrc, apt-get purge fglrx-updates

I don't know if this is an Ubuntu or an ATI driver problem. But 1. seems
to be at least a compatibility issue. A driver that was installed with a
certain kernel version blocks loading of another kernel. 2. is a package
maintenance problem. 3. shows that the problem is upstream relevant and
even worse with the upstream kernel.

Software: Ubuntu 11.10 32 Bit from Alternate CD using LUKS/LVM with
/-encryption, PAE-enable kernel update. Gnome Shell.
