[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 942448] [NEW] Xorg crash
Public bug reported: Ubuntu 11.10 on Acer Aspire - hopefully you've got full details in the log files. Starts and gets to X-windows login prompt. At any point from here on in, if I move the mouse cursor, X-windows crashes and restarts. I can see in the syslog file there's an error: gnome-session[3588]: Gdk-WARNING: gnome-session: Fatal IO error 11 (Resource temporarily unavailable) on X server :0.#012 (you may have the latest syslog file without that in - it seems to have re-started a new one in the past 30 minutes or so, I would *facepalm* but my forehead is hurting). This problem started on Sunday Feb 12th - it did an automatic update of some stuff (I didn't take too much notice). One thing was it reckoned it could only do a partial update, but still seemed to be OK. Then prompted me to reboot and on reboot - bang this problem surfaced. I also dual-boot this machine to a 64-bit Ubuntu 11.04 install (and am refusing to take that through the upgrade to 11.10 until there's a satisfactory fix for this). Reading around some forums (for Gentoo, Redhat and Ubuntu) it seems this is in Gnome 3 - though other users have different but related problems (usually different combination of actions before X-windows crashes - some even get to use the machine and do stuff first). [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 942446] [NEW] Xorg crash after attach external monitor to laptop
Public bug reported: It starts right after last update of xserver-xorg-core After that I created a bug report here: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg-server/+bug/927177 By community I solve this problem as I describe in there topic. But after that appeared new problems: 1. Laptop no longer go to the suspend by closing his lid (as i describe in above report). Only by from menu. 2. I can't attach external monitor to my laptop (asus u36sd). Effects are the same: xorg crashes and go to the login. But in the second case if external monitor is attached after login I go again to the login page because xorg crashed again. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 921139] Re: mouse scroll left-right inverted since 1.11
Upstream bug #45614 is a duplicate of upstream bug #46205. Launchpad is showing the status of 45614 ('invalid' as it's a duplicate) rather than that of 46205 ('New'). This is misleading as the bug /is/ valid, so I'm manually updating the reference to upstream and will report a bug against launchpad. ** Bug watch added: freedesktop.org Bugzilla #46205 https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=46205 ** Changed in: xorg-server Importance: Medium = Unknown ** Changed in: xorg-server Status: Invalid = Unknown ** Changed in: xorg-server Remote watch: freedesktop.org Bugzilla #45614 = freedesktop.org Bugzilla #46205 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg-server in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/921139 Title: mouse scroll left-right inverted since 1.11 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/xorg-server/+bug/921139/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 875466] [NEW] Lots of packages shipping with broken md5sums
You have been subscribed to a public bug: This problem is easily noticeable on oneiric if you install the debsums package and run 'debsums -s' On a server system with only very small set of packages installed, I see broken md5sums for these packages: % sudo debsums -s debsums: changed file /usr/share/doc/libaprutil1-dbd-sqlite3/changelog.Debian.gz (from libaprutil1-dbd-sqlite3 package) debsums: changed file /usr/share/doc/libaprutil1-ldap/changelog.Debian.gz (from libaprutil1-ldap package) debsums: changed file /usr/share/doc/libxcb-render0/changelog.Debian.gz (from libxcb-render0 package) debsums: changed file /usr/share/doc/libxcb-shm0/changelog.Debian.gz (from libxcb-shm0 package) debsums: changed file /usr/share/doc/perl/changelog.Debian.gz (from perl-base package) debsums: changed file /usr/share/doc/racoon/changelog.Debian.gz (from racoon package) On a desktop system you'll see a *lot* more problems. See here for example: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1859706 (report from another person who noticed the same problem) Some of the wrong checksums are probably caused by including checksums for symlinked files from other packages into md5sums. Example: % ls -l /usr/share/doc/libxcb-shm0/changelog.Debian.gz lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 30 2011-10-14 21:45 /usr/share/doc/libxcb-shm0/changelog.Debian.gz - ../libxcb1/changelog.Debian.gz % aptitude download libxcb-render0 Get: 1 http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ oneiric/main libxcb-render0 amd64 1.7-3 [11.9 kB] Fetched 11.9 kB in 0s (146 kB/s) % dpkg -x libxcb-render0_1.7-3_amd64.deb . % dpkg -e libxcb-render0_1.7-3_amd64.deb % grep changelog.Debian.gz DEBIAN/md5sums 15276f194d3ca77e0c9682105f2f004c usr/share/doc/libxcb-render0/changelog.Debian.gz % md5sum usr/share/doc/libxcb-render0/changelog.Debian.gz md5sum: usr/share/doc/libxcb-render0/changelog.Debian.gz: No such file or directory % ls -l usr/share/doc/libxcb-render0/changelog.Debian.gz lrwxrwxrwx 1 jk jk 30 2011-06-11 01:23 usr/share/doc/libxcb-render0/changelog.Debian.gz - ../libxcb1/changelog.Debian.gz But there are also packages that actually have wrong md5sums for files included in the package. Example: % aptitude download perl-base Get: 1 http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ oneiric/main perl-base amd64 5.12.4-4 [1,430 kB] Fetched 1,430 kB in 0s (2,440 kB/s) % dpkg -x perl-base_5.12.4-4_amd64.deb . % dpkg -e perl-base_5.12.4-4_amd64.deb % grep changelog.Debian.gz DEBIAN/md5sums b060dab6fca4e84eceacdefb619fa79b usr/share/doc/perl/changelog.Debian.gz % md5sum usr/share/doc/perl/changelog.Debian.gz ec4b1914bcbe7a3143e0b16f81b9a329 usr/share/doc/perl/changelog.Debian.gz Both of this cases should be fixed. ** Affects: consolekit (Ubuntu) Importance: Low Assignee: Martin Pitt (pitti) Status: Fix Released ** Affects: dpkg (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Invalid ** Affects: gnome-media (Ubuntu) Importance: Low Assignee: Martin Pitt (pitti) Status: Fix Released ** Affects: libxt (Ubuntu) Importance: Medium Assignee: Martin Pitt (pitti) Status: In Progress ** Affects: consolekit (Ubuntu Precise) Importance: Low Assignee: Martin Pitt (pitti) Status: Fix Released ** Affects: dpkg (Ubuntu Precise) Importance: Undecided Status: Invalid ** Affects: gnome-media (Ubuntu Precise) Importance: Low Assignee: Martin Pitt (pitti) Status: Fix Released ** Affects: libxt (Ubuntu Precise) Importance: Medium Assignee: Martin Pitt (pitti) Status: In Progress -- Lots of packages shipping with broken md5sums https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/875466 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to libxt in Ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 927918] Re: Frequency scaling causes whole-system micro-freezes / Lags / stutters with AMD Zambezi (Bulldozer) CPU
** Description changed: # WORKAROUND # To work around this issue, I change the governor of all the cpu's to 'performance'. You can put the following lines in a script and run it as root after boot. This will make all cores run at maximum rate, causing more power consumption. Note that I have four cpu's. You might have 6 or 8 if this occurs with other FX series processors. #!/bin/bash - echo performance /sys/devices/system/cpu/cu0/cpufreq/scaling_governor + echo performance /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/scaling_governor echo performance /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu1/cpufreq/scaling_governor echo performance /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu2/cpufreq/scaling_governor echo performance /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu3/cpufreq/scaling_governor ## Dear Ones, When frequency scaling is activated (more details below) the system has short freezes, short lags, short time-outs. They vary in length and can be as long as about 1 second. Here's a video(1). I've received help from the fantastic folks at the xorg-driver-ati mailing list. Here's the thread(2). It doesn't matter whether it is Unity or Unity 2D. Windows 7 runs smooth, without the stuttering / framedrop problem in my LCD's Maximum resolution of 1280x1024. Testing with a dedicated PCI Express GPU (Radeon R300 if I remember correctly), the stuttering persisted. Here's some testing with different governors: performance: smoothness goodness ondemand: the stuttering as demonstrated in the video conservative: stuttering reduced to seemingly about 10% compared to ondemand powersave: stuttering increase seemingly to about five times more than with ondemand When using ondemand, raising minimum frequencies results in less stuttering. Raising the minimum frequency of all four cores to the second step, 1.7GHz, helps a lot and and raising it to 2.5GHz results no stuttering. This is under the limited strain of dragging windows around in 1280x1024 in compiz, Ubuntu 11.10. I've also tested 2012-02-06 image of precise. Still occurs. As per Joseph's request on comment #5, I've also tested with upstream kernel from Mainline Kernels Archive on Oneiric. Here's the basic info: shahar@shahar-desktop:~$ uname -a Linux shahar-desktop 3.3.0-030300rc4-generic #201202181935 SMP Sun Feb 19 00:36:30 UTC 2012 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux shahar@shahar-desktop:~$ lsb_release -a LSB Version: core-2.0-amd64:core-2.0-noarch:core-3.0-amd64:core-3.0-noarch:core-3.1-amd64:core-3.1-noarch:core-3.2-amd64:core-3.2-noarch:core-4.0-amd64:core-4.0-noarch Distributor ID: Ubuntu Description: Ubuntu 11.10 Release: 11.10 Codename: oneiric As per Joseph's request on comment #6, I've tested Gnome Classic (No Effects). It didn't happen when my CPU was an AMD Sempron 140. As soon as I switched to the AMD FX-4100 CPU this started. As per Gigabyte's instructions(3), in order to have support for this CPU, I upgraded the BIOS from the F2 version to the F3 version before replacing the CPU (flashrom FTW!) If it is necessary, I can still put in the old Sempron 140 CPU for testing. More stuff I tried since replacing the CPU: I have played with BIOS settings - trying different configurations. I also replaced to a new, more adequate PSU. I also tried different RAM sticks and different amounts of them (1, 2 and 4 sticks). [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 874218] [NEW] LightDM restarts after first login attempt
You have been subscribed to a public bug: When I initially boot or reboot my computer and am presented with the LightDM login screen, two strange things happen: 1) There are some weird graphical artifacts near the top of the screen that change as I type in my password. 2) After entering the password (correctly) and hitting enter, the LightDM screen disappears, my displays are turned off, and only moments later I'm presented with the login screen again. Logging in the second time is successful and I'm able to reach the desktop. It seems like these might be part of the same problem. I can't say for sure whether this is consistent behavior because I only upgraded yesterday. I'm using NVIDIA binary drivers with TwinView, Oneiric. ** Affects: nvidia-graphics-drivers (Ubuntu) Importance: Low Status: New -- LightDM restarts after first login attempt https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/874218 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-graphics-drivers in Ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

Chris Wilson, thank you for following up on this. The Description data was obtained in an Xubuntu Live CD Environment: http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/xubuntu/releases/12.04/alpha-2/ I am not terribly familiar with compositing, which OS has which backend, etc. However, the problem was not reproducible in a Ubuntu 11.04 Live CD Environment (link is long gone as it's all Live DVD now :( ). I'm a bit wary of comparing 12.04 with 11.04 since virtually every component changed between the two and so it is difficult to judge which single change triggers the bug. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 942662] Re: compiz crashed with SIGSEGV in intel_miptree_release()
Hi Guilherme, Thanks for flagging this intel_miptree_release() crash still happens with 8.0.1 mesa, since we'd understood that version fixed these issues. However, apport appears to have gone to lunch and not collected a backtrace or log files, etc. Perhaps since it believes this is a dupe it didn't try? Anyway, we may need to have you gather these files manually. See if you can reproduce the crash while running unity in gdb. (Try maximize/minimize windows a bunch, perhaps with some other graphical things running in the background, and maybe switch desktops back and forth.) Then when it crashes collect a full backtrace. Also attach your /var/log/Xorg.0.log, `sudo dmesg`, and your ~/.xsession-errors. Note that this latter file can sometimes include passwords or other private details so you may want to edit it down; we really only need the lines immediately leading up to the crash, to understand what was going on. ** Also affects: mesa (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Changed in: mesa (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided = Critical ** Changed in: mesa (Ubuntu) Status: New = Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to mesa in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/942662 Title: compiz crashed with SIGSEGV in intel_miptree_release() To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mesa/+bug/942662/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 926379] Re: compiz crashed with SIGSEGV in intel_miptree_release() (Needs mesa-8.0.1)
Our guess is that the 8.0.1 patch solved these crashes for the general case, but there are corner cases. The aforementioned links indicate that this crash happens when compiz renders to a large texture. If that is true, it would mean that this bug can be reproduced only on systems with large extended monitors or similar configurations with very high total resolution allocations. Something like that. Also, sounds like this issue is believed to affect only sandybridge / ironlake, although I don't have that confirmed and can't tell from the dupes. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 926379] Re: compiz crashed with SIGSEGV in intel_miptree_release() (Needs mesa-8.0.1)
I don't have a sandybridge/ironlake system on hand, and can't reproduce on my other intel hardware. However if someone does have that hardware and can reproduce the issue, here's what we need right now: a) Gather a full backtrace (see https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Backtrace) b) Is it reproducible on any graphics other than ironlake/sandybridge? c) What are some steps that will (semi-)reliably reproduce the crash? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to mesa in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/926379 Title: compiz crashed with SIGSEGV in intel_miptree_release() (Needs mesa-8.0.1) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mesa/+bug/926379/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 926379] Re: compiz crashed with SIGSEGV in intel_miptree_release() (Needs mesa-8.0.1)
There have been two patches proposed upstream (one to mesa, one to libdrm) which purportedly fix this crash, however they've not yet been reviewed or accepted into any official git trees. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 901630] Re: multitouch + qt doesn't work (eg fingerpaint demo) with wacom serial touchscreen
I have a 2740p, which I believe is just a smaller screen version of the model referenced in this bug report. I'm using 11.10. When I try to do a two-finger pinch or rotate, the system no longer recognizes any right-mouse clicks on the trackpad device. https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Multitouch/HardwareSupport suggests using 'setserial' for this device, but I'm not sure how to do that. Any pointers? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xf86-input-wacom in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/901630 Title: multitouch + qt doesn't work (eg fingerpaint demo) with wacom serial touchscreen To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xf86-input-wacom/+bug/901630/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
