[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 878904] Re: Touchpad stops working after using system for a few minutes

2012-04-24 Thread Siim Põder
this is likely not kernel bug, see here:
https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-input-synaptics/+question/176273

my guess is the touchpad gets disabled by syndaemon and for some reason
fails to get re-enabled. synclient/xinput being able to re-enable the
mouse speaks for this, also for me the touchpad continued to work on
console with gmp.

** Package changed: linux (Ubuntu) = xserver-xorg-input-synaptics

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 982771] Re: Scrolling stops working in GTK3 scrolled windows after some time

2012-04-24 Thread Argyris
I commented on a bug that was a duplicate to this one, so I'll carry my
findings over here. I've tested versions 0ubuntu3 and 0ubuntu4 and
neither has the problem. It seems to have been introduced in 0ubuntu5
(the current version), and it seems to be related to some changes to
coasting speed. There is a noticeable difference between 0ubuntu4 and
0ubuntu5 in regards to coasting, so something was definitely changed and
I believe this is likely where the problem lies.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 987720] [NEW] Xorg freeze

2012-04-24 Thread Ilja Sidoroff
Public bug reported:

After upgrading to 12.04 (beta), my Apple cinematic display hasn't been
working correctly. Booting and splash screen works normally, but at the
end of the boot the screen goes black. This doesn't happen all the the
time -- I managed to boot correctly once, another time I got to gnome
login before then screen froze.

My current workaround is to boot older kernel (the one used in 11.10,
3.0.x). Since this is my work machine, I haven't had time to debug more
thoroughly, so I don't know if the problem lies in nvidia drivers,
kernel or x.org.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 987729] [NEW] package fglrx (not installed) failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-removal script returned error exit status 1

2012-04-24 Thread vanquishedangel
Public bug reported:

In jockey I tried to install fglrx-updates (post release) and it
wouldn't install and then I had issues with fglrx (the second option in
jockey) finally I ran sudo dpkg-reconfigure fglrx-updates fglrx-
amdcccle-updates after I installed them from synaptic, jockey still
doesn't see it installed tho but it seems to be working fine.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 576648] Re: package nvidia-* failed to install/upgrade: nvidia-* kernel module failed to build (Unable to determine the target kernel version.)

2012-04-24 Thread n0PxN0p
I confirm it is present on natty with packages from oneiric listed below:
linux-image-3.0.0-17-generic linux-headers-3.0.0-17-generic module-init-tools
procps

And: nvidia-current 270.41.06-0ubuntu1.1 (which is the latest for natty
at the moment, as well as those listed above)

Result of building nvidia module according to
/var/lib/dkms/nvidia-current/270.41.06/build/make.log:
-
DKMS make.log for nvidia-current-270.41.06 for kernel 3.0.0-17-generic (x86_64)
Вт. апр. 24 13:38:56 VOLT 2012
If you are using a Linux 2.4 kernel, please make sure
you either have configured kernel sources matching your
kernel or the correct set of kernel headers installed
on your system.

If you are using a Linux 2.6 kernel, please make sure
you have configured kernel sources matching your kernel
installed on your system. If you specified a separate
output directory using either the KBUILD_OUTPUT or
the O KBUILD parameter, make sure to specify this
directory with the SYSOUT environment variable or with
the equivalent nvidia-installer command line option.

Depending on where and how the kernel sources (or the
kernel headers) were installed, you may need to specify
their location with the SYSSRC environment variable or
the equivalent nvidia-installer command line option.

*** Unable to determine the target kernel version. ***

make: *** [select_makefile] Ошибка 1

--EOF

Workaround that supposes switching back to kernel version Natty shipped with is
not an option for me, due to several bugs i'm catching on my laptop, including
this one for example:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/924905 (which makes it
impossible to use the laptop at all in my case).
Building module from source in not a best option for me also due to several
reasons that also hardly refer to current bug.

Should i provide some additional info?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 985820] Re: Xorg freeze or compiz freeze

2012-04-24 Thread Exterminans
Xorg does not freeze, all hotkeys still work, even applications stay
responding as in they still accept mouse and keyboard-inputs. (e.g.
applications can still be terminated with alt+F4, tested by terminating
a running skype call while the screen was frozen, rhytmbox was also
still controlable)

Only the composed image seems to be frozen.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 969121] Re: Cannot boot Live CD with Nvidia GTX 550Ti

2012-04-24 Thread B1ackcr0w
Many Thanks germulvey.

While technically this does not fix the bug. It has triaged it for me to
the point I have a working system.

I shall post in the related Ubuntu Forum threads this as a possible
short term measure to bypass the impasse the bug causes on installation.

I agree with Ilja that this is a workaround not a fix though.

Would also like to confirm that Chris Bagwell's patch works for me. I'm
using 1.11.4 from Debian Sid and the patch didn't apply cleanly
(whitespace issue and started at 297 instead of 282), but after I fixed
that it works like a charm. Been missing this feature for a while :)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 920488] Re: X.org crashes (Segmentation fault)

2012-04-24 Thread cbourbou
Today it's pretty bad, 3 session crashes in around 30 minutes, can
happen while working with any application (today: Thunderbird, Nautilus,
once even while logging in).

I have a feeling that this happens with external LCD attached - can't
remember it happening while working with the 'on board' LCD only while
on the road. But this is not conclusive, I do work around 80% with
external LCD.

General question: Does it make sense for me to add more Xorg logs? Does
it help to pinpoint the problem?

Cheers, Tino

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 982251]

2012-04-24 Thread Chris Wilson
And the last patch landed in drm-intel-next-queued:

commit 0f91128d88bbb8b0a8e7bb93df2c40680871d45a
Author: Chris Wilson ch...@chris-wilson.co.uk
Date: Tue Apr 17 10:05:38 2012 +0100

drm/i915: Wait for all pending operations to the fb before disabling the pip

During modeset we have to disable the pipe to reconfigure its timings
and maybe its size. Userspace may have queued up command buffers that
depend upon the pipe running in a certain configuration and so the
commands may become confused across the modeset. At the moment, we use a
less than satisfactory kick-scanline-waits should the GPU hang during
the modeset. It should be more reliable to wait for the pending
operations to complete first, even though we still have a window for
userspace to submit a broken command buffer during the modeset.

However imho the system should avoid that this situation would happen.

You can, set the resolution. Using cvt, and then defining a new mode,
and then setting it. But. If you set the resolution (i.e.: force) with
xrandr, the text gets unusable, huge. More info on this:

literally-huge-fonts-in-some-applications-and-situati

I don't know if this is a bug in Xorg, or in VMWare.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 966619] [NEW] 3 Finger Touch and gestures no longer working

2012-04-24 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

3 Finger touch support worked out of the box on my Dell XPS L501x in Ubunt
11.10.
This is no longer the case in 12.04.
Symclient -m 100 reports all 3 fingers detected. Even the synaptiks app reports

Geisview reports device touches: 2

Any suggestions?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 966619] Re: 3 Finger Touch and gestures no longer working

2012-04-24 Thread Chase Douglas
Hi Rishi,

You probably have a touchpad that tells us of only two touch locations,
but also tells us how many total touches are on the trackpad. When we
moved to the new uTouch architecture in Precise, we lost the ability to
support these types of devices.

I am modifying the state of this bug to become a task to handle two-
touch multitouch trackpads.

- 3 Finger touch support worked out of the box on my Dell XPS L501x in Ubunt

- This is no longer the case in 12.04.
+ Two-touch multitouch trackpads usually tell how many total touches are
+ on the device. If the trackpad reports three total touches, we can
+ emulate three touch gestures by following the movements of the two
+ reported touches. This requires the X server sending the details on the
+ number of touches, and the uTouch stack interpreting those details.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 936552] Re: MacBookAir 4, 1 trackpad does not work with evdev/multitouch driver

2012-04-24 Thread Seth Forshee
It's not really a separate touchpad, it's a /dev/input/mouseX device
registered by the mousedev driver for the same touchpad, kind of a
legacy mouse device for applications that need that sort of thing. It's
there in the good and bad case, and X seems to be (correctly) ignoring
it.

I think you may be onto something with the keyboard remove being
related. I don't know what's going on, and I don't see it on my MBA 4,1,
but dmesg does show usbhid devices disappearing and reappearing about 18
seconds after boot. Actually it looks like the usbhid module is unloaded
and reloaded. If I rmmod then insmod usbhid on my machine my touchpad
stops working until I restart X.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 987720] Re: Xorg freeze - black screen after splash screen

2012-04-24 Thread Bryce Harrington
With proprietary drivers, the first thing to try is to completely
uninstall and purge them, then reinstall using jockey.

Next thing I'd try is to downgrade to the .33 nvidia driver; some folks
have reported troubles with .40 that didn't exist with .33.

Report back here once you've had time to do some further
troubleshooting.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 968845] Re: bcm5974 touchpad doesn't work after S3 on MacBookAir

2012-04-24 Thread Chase Douglas
Hi Daniel,

After you upgraded, did you log out and back in, or restart your
computer? The changes would not take effect until you restarted the X
server. That would explain why it didn't fix things at first, and now it
is fixed.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 763052] Re: Ubuntu can't boot on nvidia GeForce GT240 with nouveau drivers

2012-04-24 Thread Peter Wagner
Now I can positively confirm, that the problem was given by a Nouveau
driver. According to the receipt #19, I removed the Nouveau driver,
restarted for sure, allowed the Nvidia propriety driver (to run Ubiquity
in 3D), and everything is going fine now. I was just confused by the
install parameter, which made no sense to me, but I trusted for a
while, until I decided to uninstall it. Thanks a lot!!!

Anyway, the bug still persisted until yesterday, and if there is some
priority to make the Nouveau driver run with this card, I would be
really happy to help as a testing case. Don't hesitate to contact me on
o.petris$volny.cz (with some patience, it takes sometimes some days for
me to check mails.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 970438] Re: Mouse pointer stops responding without known trigger

2012-04-24 Thread Siim Põder
my theory is that it is related to syndaemon disabling the touchpad, because:
1. touchpad operation can be resumed by synclient and xinput cli tools
2. rmmod psmouse modprobe psmouse also works, but likely because that
reloads the synaptics driver
3. gpm driver continues to work in a console while touchpad is disabled in X
4. people have reporded that removing the disable touchpad while typing
option from mouse settings is a workaround for this

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 977334] Re: external screen is filled with random color when primary screen is off during logon on MacBook Air4, 1

2012-04-24 Thread Eugene San
Screenshot attached, it looks perfectly normal.
But there was no actual picture on the monitor when PtrScr was pressed, only
backlight and same random color on all pixels.

Next actions bring screen to normal:
a. If lid was closed when starting session:
Open lid, wait ~3 second, picture appears and both monitors are fine.
If lid closed now, both screens goes off but external one re-appears after
keyboard or mouse activity or lid opening.
b. If screen was opened when starting session:
Close lid, wait ~3 second, both screens goes off but external one
re-appears after keyboard or mouse activity or lid opening.

Ok, yet another suspend and touchpad works perfectly. Changed back to
verification-needed and hope for other folks to test it out.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 728745] Re: [nvidia, 7300, 7400] display freeze when using unity desktop

2012-04-24 Thread Jonathan Olmsted
I thought I would add my experience since I finally got around to trying
out the suggestions mentioned in this post.

*Hardware* (relevant output from lspci -v)
05:00.0 VGA compatible controller: nVidia Corporation G72M [GeForce Go 7200]
(rev a1) (prog-if 00 [VGA controller])
Subsystem: Hewlett-Packard Company Device 30b7
Flags: bus master, fast devsel, latency 0, IRQ 16
Memory at c700 (32-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=16M]
Memory at d000 (64-bit, prefetchable) [size=256M]
Memory at c600 (64-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=16M]
Expansion ROM at unassigned [disabled]
Capabilities: access denied
Kernel driver in use: nvidia
Kernel modules: nvidia_current, nouveau, nvidiafb

*Driver*
nvidia 295.40

*OS*
Ubuntu 11.10 x86_64

*Method*
All I had to do was use the xorg-edgers ppa and everything else was automatic.

Thanks to all who have helped resolve this bug (if you see this). I am
thrilled to finally have real Unity with a current driver.

I haven't had any of the segfaults mentioned above, but I have only been
running it for a few hours.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 985065] Re: Can't use fr/oss keyboard layout by default

2012-04-24 Thread Bryce Harrington
At this stage we don't know for 100% certain whether the root cause is a
general problem affecting many keyboard layouts, or is due to something
specific with fr/oss that just happens to show a generic symptom that
other keyboard layouts also exhibit.

However, if it is the latter, then the stack should be stronger at
communicating those issues up so they can be more readily debugged.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 988079] [NEW] Dismal performance on HP Z600 with 30 landscape monitor

2012-04-24 Thread Thomas Bushnell, BSG
Public bug reported:

On my Z600, with a fresh Precise installation, after installing the
NVIDIA driver 295.40 (same version as in gPrecise), glxgears runs
extremely slowly full-screen. When running on Precise, Chrome's GPU
accelerated rendering path produces correct results, albeit extremely
slowly.
