[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1184451] Re: Ubuntu 13.10 random screen freeze while Normal OS activites
For me this is still an issue (on the stable 13.10), but (un)fortunately I have no idea how to reproduce it or what factors (do not) contribute to it. So far, I seem to have found: - the version of nvidia-drivers or the use of nouveau is irrelevant - in Gnome, I have the impression that a freeze is much more likely when using multiple workspaces - it seems to happen very much less frequently when using Unity than with Gnome sessions (but I probably don't use the workspaces in Unity as much as in Gnome) Currently, I experience a freeze in Gnome-Shell within 1-3 hours after startup/reboot. I will happily grab the daily snapshot and see if it still happens there and then upload the apport-collect data. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg-server in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1184451 Title: Ubuntu 13.10 random screen freeze while Normal OS activites To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg-server/+bug/1184451/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

Sorry I no longer use ubuntu/Linux - Reply message - From: Christopher M. Penalver christopher.m.penal...@gmail.com To: brucey...@live.com Subject: [Bug 1048874] Re: Xorg crashed with SIGABRT in __libc_message() loading modesetting module - corrupted double-linked list Date: Tue, Jan 7, 2014 03:14 Adam Bruce, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? If so, could you please test for this with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com /daily-live/current/ . If it remains an issue, could you please run the following command in the development release from a Terminal (Applications-Accessories-Terminal), as it will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report: apport-collect -p xorg-server REPLACE-WITH-BUG-NUMBER Please note, given that the information from the prior release is already available, doing this on a release prior to the development one would not be helpful. I will try out the solutions here to contribute on this this evening. Please, how are the actual informations on pinning down this issue to a subsystem? What I want to contribute at first is technical stuff. I have exactly the same issue on this constellation (all tried out in 2013): Dell Studio 1558 with BIOS A04 and A12, HD4500 ATI debian or archlinux installed several installed linux-3.1n.x versions several recent fglrx catalyst legacy drivers several recent open source radeon drivers Yes, no ubuntu launchpad issue at all! Yes, all the same crash but the pattern on screen after crash is different: fglrx is flashing a couple of chars in the pattern, radeon displays a mor simple pattern with no flashing chars. Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1175279] Re: Focus gets stuck on the current application
The Issue is still affecting 13.04 and 13.10. Its my main PC so I don't really want to move it to a development version of Ubuntu. Its not got fixed in 3 releases so I am not hopefully its been fixed upstream in the last couple of months. I can just about tolerate it using the F Keys to switch back and revive the session all though it's hardly ideal. I will happily run the apport-collect on the existing install. Its a fully updated 13.10 install of Ubuntu 64bit. Thanks, Charlie M On Tue, Jan 7, 2014 at 7:06 AM, Christopher M. Penalver christopher.m.penal...@gmail.com wrote: Charlie, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1266102] Re: 10de:0fd4 [Lenovo IdeaPad Y580] nvidia binary drivers don't work at all
apport information ** Tags added: apport-collected ** Description changed: I noticed after upgrading to Saucy Salamander that optirun couldn't work with the nvidia driver anymore. It might have happened earlier but I don't know exactly when. It worked since around March 2013. I tried installing: * nvidia-304 * nvidia-304-updates * nvidia-319 * nvidia-319-updates * nvidia-331 * nvidia-331-updates in combination with both bbswitch or nvidia-prime. I also tried upgrading the kernel to 3.12. When running with nvidia-prime, the system didn't start at all - a graphics configuration error was reported and the xorg log showed that the nvidia driver couldn't be used. When running with bbswitch, the computer starts but optirun doesn't work. The error reported is: Failed to initialize the NVIDIA GPU at PCI:1:0:0 I haven't yet tried nouveau driver. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1266102] Re: 10de:0fd4 [Lenovo IdeaPad Y580] nvidia binary drivers don't work at all
I've booted from Ubuntu Trusty Live CD on USB stick. It didn't offer to install additional drivers (same as 13.10 and 13.4). I installed nvidia-331 and started nvidia-settings. It works, recognizes the cards and offers to switch between the performance mode (nvidia GPU) and standard (Intel). When running glxgears, I got very small refresh rate, so I assume it's not actually using the nvidia drivers and that I have to reboot to do that. However, it does work better than before - nvidia-settings wouldn't start in my configuration. Is this enough information? Can I help some more? [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1266784] [NEW] i915_set_reset_status *ERROR* render ring hung inside bo
Public bug reported: This is occuring when I change users, and when I log in from the login GUI, but not 100% of the time (!). It just started yesterday. Boot brings up the graphical login screen normally. I log in with the primary/only user, and the screen goes very dark and I get just a mouse pointer which appears and moves if I use the mouse (trackpad or etc). I don't seem to be able to get windows to work, but if I could I couldn't see them, since the screen stays black except for that pointer. If I type Ctrl-Alt-F1, it takes a few seconds rather than less than 1 to get to a TTY. There, there is a steady but slow stream of errors coming up that look like this: *ERROR* render ring hung inside bo (0) at (0) drm:i915_hangcheck_elapsed i915_set_reset_status *ERROR* render ring hung inside bo I can however, log in fine in TTY and access my files. It looks like nothing much is running (top), and I don't see the normal X processes. This is making my computer unusable. I'm running on the latest 13.10 on a Lenovo thinkpad X230tablet. I don't think I made any changes. There was one update that occurred shortly before this started yesterday, but it doesn't have anything suspicious-looking in it. It was: Start-Date: 2014-01-06 15:34:15 Commandline: apt-get dist-upgrade Upgrade: libnautilus-extension1a:amd64 (3.8.2-0ubuntu2.1, 3.8.2-0ubuntu2.2), libjavascriptcoregtk-3.0-0:amd64 (1.10.2-0ubuntu2, 1.10.2-0ubuntu3), libwe bkitgtk-1.0-0:amd64 (1.10.2-0ubuntu2, 1.10.2-0ubuntu3), gir1.2-javascriptcoregtk-3.0:amd64 (1.10.2-0ubuntu2, 1.10.2-0ubuntu3), ubuntu-release-upgrader- gtk:amd64 (0.205.2, 0.205.4), usb-creator-common:amd64 (0.2.50, 0.2.50.1), nautilus:amd64 (3.8.2-0ubuntu2.1, 3.8.2-0ubuntu2.2), libwebkitgtk-3.0-0:amd64 (1.10.2-0ubuntu2, 1.10.2-0ubuntu3), nautilus-data:amd64 (3.8.2-0ubuntu2.1, 3.8.2-0ubuntu2.2), python3-distupgrade:amd64 (0.205.2, 0.205.4), libwebkitgtk-3.0-common:amd64 (1.10.2-0ubuntu2, 1.10.2-0ubuntu3), libwebkitgtk-1.0-common:amd64 (1.10.2-0ubuntu2, 1.10.2-0ubuntu3), usb-creator-gtk:amd64 (0.2.50, 0.2.50.1), ubuntu-release-upgrader-core:amd64 (0.205.2, 0.205.4), libjavascriptcoregtk-1.0-0:amd64 (1.10.2-0ubuntu2, 1.10.2-0ubuntu3), gir1.2-webkit-3.0:amd64 (1.10.2-0ubuntu2, 1.10.2-0ubuntu3) End-Date: 2014-01-06 15:35:01 ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 13.10 Package: xorg 1:7.7+1ubuntu6 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 3.11.0-15.23-generic 3.11.10 Uname: Linux 3.11.0-15-generic x86_64 .tmp.unity.support.test.0: ApportVersion: 2.12.5-0ubuntu2.2 Architecture: amd64 CompizPlugins: No value set for `/apps/compiz-1/general/screen0/options/active_plugins' CompositorRunning: compiz CompositorUnredirectDriverBlacklist: '(nouveau|Intel).*Mesa 8.0' CompositorUnredirectFSW: true Date: Tue Jan 7 09:03:14 2014 DistUpgraded: Fresh install DistroCodename: saucy DistroVariant: ubuntu DkmsStatus: virtualbox, 4.2.16, 3.11.0-14-generic, x86_64: installed virtualbox, 4.2.16, 3.11.0-15-generic, x86_64: installed EcryptfsInUse: Yes ExtraDebuggingInterest: Yes, if not too technical GpuHangFrequency: Several times a day GpuHangReproducibility: Occurs more often under certain circumstances GpuHangStarted: Within the last few days GraphicsCard: Intel Corporation 3rd Gen Core processor Graphics Controller [8086:0166] (rev 09) (prog-if 00 [VGA controller]) Subsystem: Lenovo Device [17aa:2203] InstallationDate: Installed on 2013-12-13 (24 days ago) InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 13.10 Saucy Salamander - Release amd64 (20131016.1) MachineType: LENOVO 34372VU MarkForUpload: True ProcKernelCmdLine: BOOT_IMAGE=/boot/vmlinuz-3.11.0-15-generic.efi.signed root=UUID=33e2b43f-d28c-4bf2-ae8b-17e29f42082a ro quiet splash vt.handoff=7 SourcePackage: xorg Symptom: display Title: Xorg freeze UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install) dmi.bios.date: 07/25/2012 dmi.bios.vendor: LENOVO dmi.bios.version: GCET21WW (1.10 ) dmi.board.asset.tag: Not Available dmi.board.name: 34372VU dmi.board.vendor: LENOVO dmi.board.version: Not Defined dmi.chassis.asset.tag: No Asset Information dmi.chassis.type: 10 dmi.chassis.vendor: LENOVO dmi.chassis.version: Not Available dmi.modalias: dmi:bvnLENOVO:bvrGCET21WW(1.10):bd07/25/2012:svnLENOVO:pn34372VU:pvrThinkPadX230Tablet:rvnLENOVO:rn34372VU:rvrNotDefined:cvnLENOVO:ct10:cvrNotAvailable: dmi.product.name: 34372VU dmi.product.version: ThinkPad X230 Tablet dmi.sys.vendor: LENOVO version.compiz: compiz 1:0.9.10+13.10.20131011-0ubuntu1 version.ia32-libs: ia32-libs N/A version.libdrm2: libdrm2 2.4.46-1ubuntu1 version.libgl1-mesa-dri: libgl1-mesa-dri 9.2.1-1ubuntu3 version.libgl1-mesa-dri-experimental: libgl1-mesa-dri-experimental N/A version.libgl1-mesa-glx: libgl1-mesa-glx 9.2.1-1ubuntu3 version.xserver-xorg-core: xserver-xorg-core 2:1.14.3-3ubuntu2 version.xserver-xorg-input-evdev: xserver-xorg-input-evdev 1:2.7.3-0ubuntu3.1 version.xserver-xorg-video-ati: xserver-xorg-video-ati 1:7.2.0-0ubuntu10 version.xserver-xorg-video-intel:
