Not to my knowledge. I don't remember ever seeing this bug before and
I'm pretty sure I would have remembered something annoying like this.
I guess I'll keep retesting the ISO weekly or so until I can determine
if it actually recurs.

stevenjoseph, thank you for your comment. So your hardware and problem may be
tracked, could you please file a new report by executing the following in a
terminal:
ubuntu-bug xorg
Please ensure you have xdiagnose installed, and that you click the Yes

Another workaround seems to be:
Open a terminal from the login screen using ctrl+alt+F2 followed by
username and password. Then do:
sudo stop lightdm
sudo lightdm

I can't say I've formally tested for this particular bug on anything
except 13.10 and 14.04 that I just did the other day. I have been using
the notebook continuously since 10.10 I believe and update to the latest
roughly 1-2 months after each release. This is the first time I see the
bug. I hope
Experiencing it on Ubuntu 14.04, lightdm 1.9.6
Steps to reproduce
1. Login as user1 (starts session on vt7)
2. Switch to user2 (starts session on vt8)
3. Try to switch to user1 session.
Attempt brings to black X screen (just cross mouse pointer). It seems lightdm
starts X only on vt9.
Thus,
Jeremy Pallats, thank you for the requested information. The next step
would be to fully commit bisect from 13.04 to 13.10 in order to identify
the offending commit. Could you please do this following

I'm also facing this issue with the exact same computer (Dell Inspiron 7520).
I guess it appears just after adding acpi_backlight=vendor to boot options
(/etc/default/grub). Unfortunately, this option is the only way to be able to
increase or decrease backlight.

This is such an annoying bug! Whenever I want to use my laptop, I open
my laptop's lid and after about a minute both screens mirror... forcing
me to go and change them back.
I have had this problem with ALL debian systems that I have worked with.
Perhaps this has to deal with lid-open???

Before fixing anything permanently, I think it is important to answer the

1) What were those values in previous versions of Ubuntu?

3) Do current Macbooks work well with such settings?
If current Macbooks work well with such
This problem also happens when I press any key right after I open my
