That's really all I could make out from it, sorry. I'm attaching a
picture in case you can see something I can't. The receipt was not very
helpful, it just says something generic like "Dell Adapter USB 3.0."
I did find the Dell part number: 470-ABHH

Hmm, maybe not. The log from the original reporter in comment #2 does

Ouch, I think the log in comment #19 is pretty definitive.
Does everyone/most people have those log messages in Xorg.0.log?...

Nevermind, figured it out. Ignored some warnings and did
sudo dpkg -i python-cryptography_1.7.1-2_amd64.deb
sudo dpkg -i python-openssl_16.2.0-1_all.deb
and it worked...

I did easy_install --upgrade PyOpenSSL but still get the problem.
Confused how pip packages (PyOpenSSL) relate to apt packages (python-
openssl), or the best way to override the default package available for
the latter. I'm on Xubuntu 16.04.

Public bug reported:
Hi,
On Ubuntu 16.04, VMWare customers are running into a couple of issues:
1. Any app that uses glGenMipmap command will not work properly or crash

More info (sort of):
After booting today, I used SSH from another machine (successfully
logging in). Unfortunately, when the laptop froze, so did my ssh
session. The terminal was not "disconnected by host", but it was inert.
The laptop has quieted, but not completely silent. Something is whirring

Hi, I find this combination with @sdruskat to be most usable and quite
comfortable:
xinput set-prop "AlpsPS/2 ALPS DualPoint Stick" "Device Accel Profile" 2
xinput set-prop "AlpsPS/2 ALPS DualPoint Stick" "Device Accel Constant
Deceleration" 4
xinput set-prop "AlpsPS/2 ALPS DualPoint Stick"
That tread was very helpful.
But you mixed things up.
I also experience the same problem with flickering background in greeter.
But, my story starts differently.
When I first time installed Xubuntu 16.04 and set up desktop background,
greeter was showing it without any problem.
Then, I created

When I raised this back in August, I could not resolve the performance either
with Ubuntu drivers or Intel. It just seemed upping the kernel from 4.6
upwards stopped the performance. You don't have to upgrade to 16.10 to see the
issue.

I ran into this issue as well, and switching from the modesetting driver
back to the intel driver in xorg.conf has helped tremendously. I went
from 15.10 through 16.04 (which was entirely broken for me, something
involving compiz I think) to 16.10, which worked, but had terrible
