[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1943137] [NEW] Mouse is connected however input does not move cursor

2021-09-09 Thread kyle g
Public bug reported:

I have two mice each with their own dongle. 1 is the microsoft sculpt
keyboard mouse combo and the other is a logitech master2 (using dongle
not bluetooth). Both of the mice work while in the login screen but
once you log in neither will control the cursor.

I know they are connected because:
- keyboard works for the microsoft sculpt
- the logitech mouse is detected by the solar app i use to configure it.
- they both work during login

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1884437] [NEW] Windows are resized and reordered upon resume from lock or suspend

After a resume from a lock/suspend, windows sizes are changed, fonts are
incorrect sizes (until mouse over), and windows have moved from the
secondary monitor to the primary monitor. This happens every time the
displays have been off (from a suspend or lock screen). AMD graphics
with dual 4K displays.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1816004] Re: GLVND: AARCH64 : Fix address passed to clear cache

2019-03-13 Thread Kyle Brenneman
I just tagged a 1.1.1 release for libglvnd with the AARCH64 and PPC64LE fixes:
https://github.com/NVIDIA/libglvnd/releases/tag/v1.1.1

If you're switching from 1.0.0, note that the dispatch table order
changed between v1.0.0 and v1.1.0, so you'll need matching builds of
libGLdispatch.so, libOpenGL.so, libGL.so, and the libGLES*.so libraries.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1782285] Re: Add missing libGLESv1_CM.so to Bionic

2018-08-08 Thread Kyle Brenneman
Also, while GLESv1 is the fixed-pipeline stuff, libGLESv1_CM.so just
provides a set of forwarder functions. Libglvnd forwards those calls to
a vendor library based on the current context, so it's up to the vendor
library what to do with them. If a vendor doesn't provide a function to
forward to, then libglvnd sends the function to an error or no-op stub
(the same way it would handle calling a function without a current
context at all).

For something like GLESv1, if a vendor library doesnt't support it, then
it would just return NULL from its eglCreateConext or
glXCreateContextAttribsARB implementation. At that point, the vendor
library doesn't need to implement any of the GLESv1 functions -- trying
to call a GLESv1 function without a current GLESv1 context is an
application error.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1782285] Re: Add missing libGLESv1_CM.so to Bionic

2018-08-07 Thread Kyle Brenneman
Just because Mesa doesn't provide GLESv1 doesn't mean other vendor
libraries can't. It certainly isn't any reason to prohibit GLESv1
support if a vendor library would otherwise be able to support it.

Conversely, having the full set of libglvnd libraries (including
libGLESv1_CM.so) doesn't require vendors to support every flavor of
OpenGL.

If you remove libGLESv1_CM.so, then any driver that does support GLESv1
would have to install its own copy of that library. Two drivers that
support GLESv1 would then end up overwriting each other or playing
symlink games to switch between them. The whole point of libglvnd is to
avoid that.

2018-07-27 Thread Jim Kyle
I've encountered this bug on the past TWO kernel updates of my Xubuntu
16.04.4 (now .5) system that uses an Nvidia card. Initially I found that
falling back to the previous kernel was a satisfactory workaround. This
morning, I tried using the "Additional drivers" system setting to change
from the Nvidia driver to the noveau driver -- and that has worked
perfectly so far. This might be a possible recommended solution. I had
originally switched from noveau to the proprietary driver because noveau
didn't work properly, but that was several years ago and it has
obviously gotten much metter!

2018-05-08 Thread Kyle Weber
I hear Pop!_OS 18.04 doesn't have this issue. I'm unfortunately about to
give up on Ubuntu and give that a try. Some word of reassurance from the
Ubuntu team here would be nice. Where they marked this as fixed, I'm not
hopeful of a fix--at least anytime soon. If anyone has found a true and
simple workaround, please let us know! Otherwise, I think my hardware
will require me to look somewhere else...

get them to change the status to an open bug and re-evaluate it? It's
clearly not fixed.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1752053] Re: nvidia-390 fails to boot graphical display

2018-04-30 Thread Kyle Weber
Hopeful this bug was fixed (as it improperly states above), I did a
fresh install on my machine with an Nvidia 1060. It will boot, then go
to a black screen on login, etc. I tried what people mentioned above,
but was not able to get a stable working system. I went back to 17.10
and have not had any issues since.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1754744] [NEW] Launching any electron app crashes Xorg

2018-03-09 Thread Kyle Fazzari
Public bug reported:

If I dare to launch any electron-based app (chrome, spotify, atom,
vscode, etc.) there's roughly an 80% chance that it kills X (bringing me
back to the login screen). This doesn't _always_ happen. Note that I
have a 4k laptop, with a 4k external screen. Things seem to have a
better chance of succeeding if I disconnect the external display before
launching the electron app. Once it launches successfully things seem to
be stable, even after re-connecting the external display.

I SSHd into this machine from another, and connected to X from gdb, then
opened vscode to cause the crash. Here is the backtrace I got from that
session (this is easy to reproduce, happy to provide any requested
info):

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1590590] Re: Touchpad not recognized on Dell Latitude E7470 Ultrabook

2016-12-20 Thread Kyle Vedder
I just received the patch and my touchpad now works as expected.

This is for my Dell Latitude E5470, which, before this update, had the
generic mouse drivers which did not recognize it as a touchpad.

When using trusty on my M3800 (4k screen) with an external monitor (also
4k) this happens VERY often-- several times a day. I wonder if it's
somehow related to GPU memory. This is really a productivity killer!

2015-11-05 Thread Kyle Boone
I am also experiencing this bug on Ubuntu Gnome 15.10 after an upgrade
from 15.04. To reproduce it, I logged in, opened up Google Chrome, and
went to twitch.tv where I opened a full screen video. The X server
crashes within a few seconds after. Non fullscreen video is fine. I have
attached an Xorg log from a session like this.

I can also trigger an Xorg crash by switching to the virtual terminal
(Ctrl+alt+f1).

This happens to me on a Dell M3800 with _no_ external monitor. Probably
a few times a week. After anywhere from 5 minutes to a few hours, the

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 269904] Re: Screen refresh problems with nvidia cards

2014-02-12 Thread Kyle Brenneman
James Jones is the original author of the patch. I made a couple
modifications to it before attaching it -- some minor simplifications,
adding the config option, slightly better error resilience, and updating
it to work against the latest compiz source tree.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 861268] Re: text corruption in terminals (xterm, urxvt) and emacs

2014-01-16 Thread Kyle Brenneman
I don't see any changes that would have fixed it, but it's quite
possible that other changes could adjust the timing such that the bug is
harder to reproduce.

I've got a Q600 handy, though, so give me a few minutes to load up Saucy
onto my test system and I'll check.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 269904] Re: Screen refresh problems with nvidia on intrepid

2014-01-13 Thread Kyle Brenneman
I've attached a patch that fixes the problem.

To give a little more detail on the race condition:

The problem is that when the X server receives a request to do some
drawing, it will send the drawing commands to the video driver and then
it immediately sends out the damage event. That works as long as the GPU
only processes one command at a time, in the order they were given.

But, an Nvidia GPU can handle multiple command streams at the same time.
If the X11 rendering takes long enough, then Compiz will try to redraw
the screen while the application's rendering is still in progress.

The GL_EXT_x11_sync_object extension was created to fix this exact
problem. It lets you use an X11 fence as an OpenGL sync object, so you
can make Compiz's rendering wait until any X11 rendering has finished.

** Patch added: Add an option to use GL_EXT_x11_sync_object to synchronize
updates with X11 drawing

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1257153] [NEW] Option AreaBottomEdge ignores other areas when active

2013-12-02 Thread Kyle Weaver
Public bug reported:

Just got a new laptop with one of the infamous ClickPads, been playing around
for a couple hours to get the thing to work decently.
After enabling Option AreaBottomEdge 82%, I finally got it to ignore
movement in the button areas, but if I put my finger down in that 18% area
first, the top 82% of the touchpad ignores any movement from a second finger.
This makes it difficult to perform a click and drag operation.
Inversely, if I touch in the top 82% first, then click on the 18% bottom button
area, then I still get cursor movement from the top area.
It's a workaround I suppose, but not ideal. Still debating about sending this
laptop back and buying something from 2011 to meet my netbook requirements

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1204246] [NEW] External display nonfunctional

2013-07-23 Thread Kyle Kingsbury
Public bug reported:

On a Dell Sputnik (XPS13, second generation), an accidental upgrade to
13.04 caused my DisplayPort external monitor to stop working. This is an
Intel i915 adapter. Rebooting and re-plugging the display in various
combinations hasn't helped; and neither does detect displays in gnome-

doesn't recognize any external modes for it. I think this could be
related to #1165965. I've attached my xorg log; nothing immediately

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1204246] Re: External display nonfunctional

2013-07-23 Thread Kyle Kingsbury
Erm, disregard all that, like N hours later I discovered that the
display's power button and reconnecting the DP cable weren't enough--
finally unplugged the whole display from wall power, in desperation, and
it came back online just fine. Must've been a false correlation with the
upgrade, or just some transient screwed-up state in the display's
circuitry triggered by a reboot. Sorry!

When I only start 'xinit', I still get the same exact issue, so from
that I can deduct that this is most likely a problem with openchrome
exclusively.

I'm going to contact the openchrome project about this.

2013-03-29 Thread Kyle Caldbeck
I installed the driver, made sure It was being used when I restarted X. Didn't
work. Still getting the same exact glitch.
Again, the glitch resembles a *very* slow version of what I'm supposed to be
seeing with a very bad red/black stripped tint to it.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1159398] Re: buggy openchrome driver renders desktop unusable

2013-03-25 Thread Kyle Caldbeck
I read the linked page. The glitch they describe sounds like the very
thing I'm having.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1159398] [NEW] buggy openchrome driver renders desktop unusable

2013-03-24 Thread Kyle Caldbeck
Public bug reported:

I'm having a serious graphics problem in Ubuntu 13.04. When the X
starts up, I get a glitchy set of squares that turns red with a
discolored overlay of what I should be seeing. I also see no cursor
whatsoever. Using lspci I got this for my video card:

01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: VIA Technologies, Inc. CN700/P4M800
Pro/P4M800 CE/VN800 Graphics [S3 UniChrome Pro] (rev 01)

Additional Details:
Openchrome has worked perfectly up until this release of Ubuntu 13.04 and
assuming latest release of openchrome.

What I am guessing is my video card is having problems with GLX, though
there doesn't seem to be any easy way to disable it (which is something
I shouldn't have to do in the first place).

The little bit of what you're *supposed* to see is also updating at an
unnervingly low framerate, furthing my suspicion that it's a serious
problem with acceleration.

It takes a while for the (glitchy) display to appear in the first place.

It didn't (thankfully) keep me from switching consoles.

The boot splash is show in text-mode only (this specific anomaly has
happed in previous releases though strangly on on the live session)

Please see if you can fix this or forward this to someone who can see
what they can do.

Thank you for reading my bug request.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1159398] Re: buggy openchrome driver renders desktop unusable

2013-03-24 Thread Kyle Caldbeck
NOTE:

In order to install apport, I had to edit the xorg.conf file use the
VESA driver instead. There is absolutley NO way I could do anything in
the GUI with the openchrome driver.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1156310] Re: xrandr detects too many displays

2013-03-20 Thread Christopher Kyle Horton
I filed the duplicate Bug #1157503 yesterday, and after today's partial
upgrade I can confirm that the problem is now fixed on my Toshiba
Satellite A505 laptop. Thanks, guys!

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1157503] [NEW] 1024x768 is the highest resolution available on Toshiba Satellite A505-S6960

2013-03-19 Thread Christopher Kyle Horton
Public bug reported:

After updates on my Raring Ringtail install a couple days ago, Ubuntu no
longer displays at my laptop's real resolution of 1366x768 anymore. It
displays instead in a square 1024x768 box in the center of my screen
instead, with black rectangles on either side of the screen. Figuring
the problem might just have been a buggy update, I made a LiveUSB with a
fresh ISO and can confirm the bug is there in the live session, too.

Note that GRUB and Plymouth still display suing the whole display at
full resolution. The bug is visible in the login screen and the desktop.

I have not overwritten my current Raring install yet, so I can go back
to that for additional debugging work if need be. I'm filing this bug
report from within the LiveUSB session using xdiagnose.

This is a pretty nasty regression and I'd like the sides of my screen
back, please. :)

A screenshot of the problem on my HDD install is available here:

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1062881] [NEW] [gm45] GPU lockup IPEHR: 0x7b001804

2012-10-06 Thread Christopher Kyle Horton
Public bug reported:

Occurred after I tried to rapidly maximize a window. `sudo lightdm
service restart` in a tty failed to restart the session (something
having to do with permissions, according to the error message it
produced in the tty). I used sudo reboot to restart my machine, then I
was greeted by multiple copies of this problem in Apport periodically.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 940564] Re: [8400m] nvidia-graphics-drivers (295.33-0ubuntu1), is causing failed restarts. shutdowns only a blackscreen on tty's other than tty7

2012-09-14 Thread Kyle Auble
I just came across this report, and while I'm not having problems with
black screens or failed shut-downs so much, I have a similar set-up to
the original reporter: Nvidia 8400M GT, Core 2 Duo, and I've been having
problems with the GPU failing to activate (see Bug #1009312). It seems
to be happening at the actual kernel level very early in booting, not
the nvidia drivers.

I'm seeing a lot of similarities in the patterns here though: problem
seems to happen in cycles over multiple shutdowns, much better luck with
the 64bit version of Ubuntu and the kernel (comment #6 above), having to
revert to the VGA drivers (comment #12), some relation to power
management. I don't think my report is an exact duplicate of this (and I
think all kernel reports are supposed to be treated separately), but I
would be interested if anyone here is seeing something similar to what I
am. If anyone is, that could really help us narrow down what's going on.

And again, if you have a 64bit processor, you really might want to try
moving to the 64bit build of Ubuntu; when I was on the PAE kernel, GPU
problems were the norm, but since switching to the 64bit version, I've
only had one bad session over at least 10 reboots.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 973096] Re: Nvidia driver causes xorg crash

2012-08-02 Thread Kyle Miller
Looks like this problem is infecting OS X too.

These suggest the problem is likely a driver fault; however, it could also be
a bug in the Window Server that occurs when performing certain actions that
used advanced graphics capabilities.
http://reviews.cnet.com/8301-13727_7-57485204-263/mac-pro-users-experiencing-random-log-outs-in-mountain-lion/

Sounds almost exactly what has been described here. Driver or X server?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 973096] Re: Nvidia driver causes xorg crash

2012-07-28 Thread Kyle Miller
nVidia, If you happen to be reading this thread, congratulations on your
success with the Nexus 7. Glad you could make some money with that ARM
Linux. Could you show some appreciation in the x86 and AMD64 world by
fixing this? I read your response to Linus' accusations. I'm not feeling
that Linux attention your press release said was coming.

@jondecker76, Use Unity 2D. Rock solid.

2012-07-04 Thread Kyle
I've found a fix for this issue; basically you will need to downgrade
xorg and restart the X server.

Here is a link to the solution:

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 973096] Re: Nvidia driver causes xorg crash

2012-06-01 Thread Kyle Miller
I found running Unity2D to be a rock solid work around. My desktop is
using an nVidia 9800GT. My notebook is an nVidia Optimus system on a
Dell XPS 17 using Bumblebee for a video driver. I have had no problems
with Bumblebee.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1003767] [NEW] NVIDIA driver version 295.53 incompatible with NVS 5100M chip

2012-05-23 Thread Kyle Guilbert
Public bug reported:

I upgraded from Lucid to Precise and experienced display corruption.
Text and widgets were displaying inconsistently on the screen, and
tended to disappear or re-appear as I moved the mouse over them, making
it nearly impossible to login with either ligthdm or gdm. More
importantly, the desktop environment was unusable. In Lucid I was using
the Ubuntu-packaged proprietary Nvidia drivers. I'm using an HP
EliteBook 8540p with the Nvidia NVS 5100M chip and was using nvidia-
common 1:0.2.44 and nvidia-current 295.40-0ubuntu1. I tried nvidia-
current-updates and nvidia-current from ppa:ubuntu-x-swat/x-updates with
no success.

I disabled X and uninstalled nvidia-common/nvidia-current and began
hand-installing previous versions from the NVIDIA site. The most recent
version that worked is 290.10. The 295.xx versions showed the same
artifacts (295.20 and 295.49).
