Ha. Thanks. But it wasn't really directed at you, I apologize if it
seemed that way.
The package in the repositories is extremely outdated and broken.
I was actually trying to get the attention of the package maintainers or
someone who can make the update happen. Since I haven't been able to get
Also, make sure to have look at

As the rewrite is not complete, certainly usable, but far from done.

Yes, the version in Ubuntu has been deprecated for years now.
Please see https://fontmanager.github.io for more details including

Nice.
But from a quick glance there seem to be some issues with this update or
maybe it's just me.
It seems to install an outdated manual page even though an up to date one is
available and installed?
Seems to be compiled without file-roller support but still suggests it? Or

Nevermind, maybe I'm looking at an old version.
That makes sense, I feel silly now.
Sorry for the noise.
Not familiar with the infrastructure...

Is it against policy for a spin to ship with a PPA enabled?
Seems like that would be the easiest solution.
It's probably just my impression, from watching it happen in the past, but
even trying to take over an obviously orphaned package can turn into an
ordeal with Debian.

Agreed.
Shipping an ancient, broken version is worse than not shipping it at
all.
Sad part is, that packaging work is mostly done, there is a debian
folder in git that is used for PPA builds, it may need minor
No.
The current version isn't even written in the same language. And both are
basically prototyping, throwaway code, on the way to 1.0, so I'm certainly
not digging into something I deprecated years ago. I barely have time for
the project as it is.
I tried contacting the maintainers to work with
rm -rf ~/.cache/font-manager
And try again.
As always, careful with rm.

Your welcome.
I suspect there's only a couple things that could cause this issue.
Database corruption.
Permissions issue.
Running the application using sudo is a terrible idea, so please don't
do that.
Database corruption shouldn't really be an issue, but it can happen
sometimes.
Anyway, glad
The preview pane allows custom text and always has.
It should probably be more obvious but it is there.

0.7.4 which was recently released allows custom preview text in browse
and compare modes.
You have no font files installed in your personal font directory.
Font Manager only allows deletion of files installed in the default user
font directory.
At this time : ~/.local/share/fonts
0.7.4 makes this much clearer by showing a placeholder and explaining this in
the help documents.

You can sidestep this issue by using the PPA, which is always up to
