[Ubuntustudio-bugs] [Bug 1787857] Re: USB mouse cursor lags after random time of correct behaviour
In my case with Parrot Linux it was a case of Interrupt conflicts. IRQ#18 kept being disabled by the system. After disabling the EHCI Handoff in the BIOS,ehci_hcd:usb1 was replaced with ehci_hcd:usb2 and the mouse lag after a random period of time stopped. You can view your interrupt assignments with: cat /proc/interrupts Mine changed from: 18: IO-APIC 18-fasteoi ehci_hcd:usb1, pata_jmicron, ata_piix, uhci_hcd:usb8 to: 18: IO-APIC 18-fasteoi ehci_hcd:usb2, pata_jmicron, ata_piix, uhci_hcd:usb8 And the problem was resolved. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Studio Bugs, which is subscribed to rtirq in Ubuntu. I encountered this recently under Ubuntu 16.04.5 with Linux 4.15.0-65-lowlatency with an AMD A8-3870k APU. This issue you're reporting has been reported very few times, which is why I believe there is hardware commonality and might be related to the video driver. [Ubuntustudio-bugs] [Bug 1787857] Re: USB mouse cursor lags after random time of correct behaviour
I tried now with 'linux-generic' package (provides currently linux- image-5.0.0-20-generic). I did not experience any mouse lag issues, upon any successful* boot. So in that sense this is 0/10 reproducible with 'generic' kernel variant. With 'lowlatency' kernel the mouse lag issue is roughly 5/10. *) NOTE: with 'generic'-kernel I saw i2c-2 device NAK errors at startup boot messages, and sometimes the boot froze at that point. I checked with the 'i2cdetect' tool and the listing for device 2 showed "nvkm". Howwever, I saw the i2c-2 NAK errors during successful boots as well. With 'lowlatency' kernel I did not see the i2c NAK-errors at all, but the dmesg in mouse lag case shows "nvkm" in it... [Ubuntustudio-bugs] [Bug 1787857] Re: USB mouse cursor lags after random time of correct behaviour
I just saw this right at boot. The mouse was lagging already at the login screen. And the login screen took around 10 seconds to show up after the first two lines of kernel boot messages. In that case I'm keeping this as incomplete, especially since OP (ronso0) has failed to verify with suggestions given by kaihengfeng. [Ubuntustudio-bugs] [Bug 1787857] Re: USB mouse cursor lags after random time of correct behaviour
I have the same issue. At the login screen, I select my user, enter the password, the mouse works fine at this point. Click on login, wait, screen comes up then at random, the mouse either works fine (about 1 time in 5) or it goes really really slow (4 times out of 5). Only way I'm working around it is to reboot (usually 5 times ish) till it decides to work. As a test manager by trade I would say this is a P3 at least not a P4, as it's definitely a functional issue not cosmetic, albeit with an untidy workaround (many reboots). Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please test the latest v5.0-rc7 kernel[0]. If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream'. If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag: 'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'. Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug as "Confirmed". Thanks in advance. Please post this in the forums at ubuntuforums.com or at askubuntu.com. Also, please check to see if this is happening with any of the other flavors, especially Xubuntu.
