[Unattended] CVS from behind a firewall

I have been trying to implement updates via CVS, but our local Government firewall is pretty severe, and that combined with their proxy means I am having problems Can anybody point me at a resource that will help me get through this from a Linux box at my end? TIA Kevin Lawry
