No, there is no good way of using mp3tunes in linux. No support.

Except for the pure evil that is PAE. Thankfu

I think you missed a connection. I didn't say that, or at least didn't
mean to say that.
64 bit is not needed at all for SMP. www.pfarrell.com for instance, is a
dual Xeon server. 32 bit debian.
64 is needed for more th

Sorry, I was referring to automatic placement of tasks on
multi-core/cpu systems. Not 32 vs 64bits.

Can't you just use mp3tunes with other media player software? It seems
kinda silly to go through all the work of setting up SqueezeCenter if
you're not going to use a Squeezebox or SoftSqueeze.

Yes, its a 2U server, weighs a ton, dual hot swappable power supplies,

I have an instance of SC7 running on a Quad Core, basically for library
management, plugin testing etc. Is it possible to assign it to a

slimserver 7.0/SqueezeCenter was recently released. It allow users of
music locker to play their music on a SqueezeBox hardware. This is very
neat.
However, I don't have a SqueezeBox and I always use SlimServer to
manager local music and use a simple mp3 player (such as mpd or moc)to
stream music
That seems to have done the trick... Thanks.

If it's just for SqueezeCenter 2 cores is plenty.
I have mine running on a Core 2 Duo 1.86 GHz along with plenty
of other server applications (and XBMC for home theatre) and
there's plenty to spare.

What are you planning to use it for?
The short answer is multi-core is great when you have multiple

I'm looking at the new(ish) E8400 Core 2 Duo chip, which uses a 45nm

I'm guessing that dual cores can be well utilized by a *nix system

Slimserver is in /usr/local/slimserver, you could delete this or just
leave it just in case. Most important is /etc/init.d/slimserver which
starts the service on boo

Did you remove 6.5.4 before installing 7.0? Squeezecenter puts things
in different locations.

With mplayer 1.0rc2 there is a problem with handling aac formats unless

Hi all,
I'm using the latest testing version of squeezecenter on a

I have tried to use mplayer to read the .m4a files of my brother's iTunes

Personally, I think 7.0 offers a much more integrated and better looking
interface. It also interfaces with SqueezeNetwork much more nicely.
I've been running 7.0 since the stable was released with no major
problems. One thing to be aware of is that if you use a lot of plugins

I'm happy with SlimServer 6.5.4, but is SlimCenter 7 a stable version
that I should upgrade to? I'm running Win2003 Server.
