I am using a Flirc USB IR receiver gen 1.
It works fine except for the next and previous track buttons (<< and
>>). These are being interpreted as volume up and volume down. I am
using a Touch remote control.
Can I fix this in a conf file somewhere, or do I need to buy a gen 2?

I don't know if it's recommended, but I've put my stuff on a 256GB USB
flash (vfat), and inserted that directly into an RPi USB port, and it
appears to work

Unless you do this for the fun of doing it, I'd suggest you get a 7"
screen, the HDGrid skin, and let your kid select album art from the
display, rather than a physical CD cover. Use LMS' custom browse menus
