[SlimDevices: Unix] Restoring from SD Corruption of piCorePlayer
I'm looking for some input from those with more experience with this system. We had a power outage and my SD card got corrupted. I believe I was running piCorePlayer 6 or 7 (the file /boot/config.txt says things like `[PI0] initramfs rootfs-pCP-12.0.gz,modules-5.4.83-pcpCore.gz...` ). I've been able to copy most, if not all, of the files to my local linux laptop. (I view this as quite an accomplishment given that I couldn't actually mount the PCP_ROOT partition and had to copy it and then 'mount it using the -noload flag' (https://unix.stackexchange.com/a/554039/114944)). I am now wondering what's the best way to proceed. I'm reasonably linux savvy, but it's been over a year since I set up piCP and I remember it took me a while to understand all of the terminology related to the player, so I'd like to avoid starting from scratch again. I have a '/PCP_ROOT/tce/mydata.tgz' file from Apr 2021. I'm using a HiFi Berry Digi optical output to my receiver and wondering what's the best way to proceed. Any suggestions? I'd also love some suggestions on how to avoid a similar corruption event the next time there's a power outage. I was streaming from spotify at the time, so I guess it was writing and reading from the disk, but otherwise, I was surprised that the SD card got corrupted since my understanding is that the player and OS are loaded into memory rather than continually read from the SD card. BIG update : IT`s WORKING! ;););) For whatever reason, in LMS , the player Icon in the left upper side of the screen has a `play` button that is hidden if you don`t hover over it . Well , I think that did the case . Now , for the last thing that is not working , how do I set path to my music folders ? I would like to have 2 folders, one that is on the sd-card , and one that it will be on a USB stick. drerd's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=72444 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=111828 ___ unix mailing list unix@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/unix

Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] Announce: piCorePlayer 8.0.0
Thanks for your comments, all. The Topping D30 was in my sights. If the USB audio from a P4 is fine I have another option. I Southampton I run an old Beresford 7510 DAC which has no USB input, but I Nicosia I have a later 7520 which does. I could swap them over - when I get to travel! The other option is just to use a Raspberry Pi (hatless) as a server and park it next to the Router. I have enough receivers to go round! But from what I read, no matter what the final solution, the purchase of a P4 may be a good idea. Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] 'Official' docker container for LMS?
Looking at the Squeezelite docs the -s option is used to set the LMS server address and port if autodiscover is not used. It also appears that, if you're using https://hub.docker.com/r/giof71/squeezelite, the SQUEEZELITE_SERVER_PORT is passed as this -s parameter. This means that you should set this variable to the address and port that your LMS server is using for your Squeezelite container. Please give it a go - change the docker-compose file for Squeezelite and restart the container. sparkyuk's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=70716 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=111828 ___ unix mailing list unix@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/unix

The USB external DAC poor sound quality was a criticism of the pre Pi4 architecture where the USB ports shared a bus with the Ethernet port. That architecture changed with the Pi4, where the USB ports have a dedicated bus. I think now its accepted that with the pi4 architecture there is good quality sound from a USB external DAC. That has certainly been my experience. If I understand your requirements correctly, I would recommend something like a Topping E30 DAC https://www.amazon.co.uk/TOPPING-E30-Hi-Res-AK4493-Decoder-Black/dp/B0868J7NRV/ref=sr_1_3?crid=13G5FCJ0K184Z=topping+dac=1641811256=topping+dac%2Caps%2C46=8-3. You can connect your Pi to the USB input and your TV to the optical input. I use an E30 in this way and also have a CD player connected to the Coaxial input and am very happy with the sound quality. coyrls's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=44253 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=114828 ___ unix mailing list unix@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/unix

pCP requires Raspberry Pi, which is ARM not Intel architecture, to run. Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] LMS doesn`t detect Sqeezelite on a RPI4
drerd wrote: > I tried to install also Local Player from the LMS plugins , still no > music is heard . LocalPlayer just tell squeezelite to play directly from a file and not streamed form LMS. All player control is done via network. I know nothing about Docket etc. but your issues is probably network - something is blocking discovery which is a broadcast packet. Have you tried manually (i.e. command line option) telling squeezelite the IP address of the LMS server. bpa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=115716 ___ unix mailing list unix@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/unix

I know nowt about Dockers (I'm old enough to remember Lady Docker:)) but what is your Squeezelite configuration ? A screenshot would help. Which OS is on the raspberry pi ? How is squeezelite currently installed ? Which player are you using ? squeezelite -l should give you a list ronnie Man in a van's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=43627 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=115716 ___ unix mailing list unix@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/unix
Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] Announce: piCorePlayer 8.0.0
I presently have a Beresford DAC strapped to the back of the TV with its two optical inputs driven by 1.A Chromecast Audio dongle receiving via Castbridge 2. A TV which has a Chromecast Video Dongle attached - this dongle is also recognised by Castbridge and audio may be streamed by that route. LMS sits on a old PC and works well enough though a Raspberry Pi would use less power! The old Beresford DAC is able to drive the amplifier and speakers (when switched on) and, with a separate volume control, drive headphones, so I have a setup that suits my needs well. I have seen the HIFIBERRY DIGI+ I/O advertised https://www.hifiberry.com/shop/boards/hifiberry-digi-io/ and I wonder if a Raspberry Pi with this hat and PiCorePlayer would allow me to achieve the same ends as above. Is it possible to use the I/O board for TV sound loopthrough? Would PiCorePlayer control the hat effectively for that purpose? I note the latest PiCorePlayer has graphical control of ALSA mixer, and that gives me hope. Deep modification of the underlying Linux would be beyond me. If this were possible a passive splitter on the analogue output of the HiFiBerry DAC would allow me to drive both the Loudspeaker Amp and a new Headphone amp with independent control. Is this a sensible approach as I look to replace ageing hardware? What other options might I have? A new external DAC with https://www.hifiberry.com/shop/boards/hifiberry-dacplus-rca-version/ would be one. It must be a common need to merge TV sound into a quality lounge audio system. Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] Announce: piCorePlayer 8.0.0
I've used resizeFS to use 'Whole disk' and now normal services has resumed. No errors in log now. I guess it was down to the nightly builds not clearing old versions but didn't get to the root of the disk space culprit. Back to the Release branch for now. I am not surprised to be honest, based upon my earlier testing I don't think drivers are causing this. *Living Room:* RPI2+HifiBerry DAC+ Pro & piCorePlayer *Attic:* RPI2+HifiBerry DAC+ RCA & piCorePlayer *Other rooms:* 6x SB Radio *LMS*: Version 8.2.0 on Xubuntu 21.10 zordaz's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=61726 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=114828 ___ unix mailing list unix@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/unix
