At a very simplistic level, alsa is at the kernel level and handles the
low level communication to the hardware. Pulse audio sits above alsa,
and can handle input from multiple sources.

They do continue to tinker with the USB stuff. Perhaps there is
something kernel related, but unless you can repeat the problem it's
doubtful it could be found. USB on the rpi's is just not very good.

I get what you are saying but using google doesn't work either, since
there are providers that block DNS requests to googles DNS servers.
Defaulting to the local DNat router is still the safest default.

that it is "locking" up the pi.
One last thing, you may want to install cifs-utils.tcz extension, it
contains a few more cifs specific tools, they are normally not needed,

There are so many I2s DACs out there, I would stay away from any USB
dac. You just have to solder the gpio header in your zero.

What would cause the "When Off" screen saver to not work. The screen
is dimming, so it knows that the unit is powered off. Doesn't matter

If you have easy access to the SD card. Flashing a new card and
swapping it is always the safest. If you encounter a problem, you can
easily revert.
