Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] ANNOUNCE: piCorePlayer 6.0.0

2021-02-04 Thread NigelC

My pi, running pcp 6.1.0, + touch screen + iqaudio dac has been working
well for many months now, connected via ethernet. I have just moved the
player, and wanted to use the built in wifi rather than wired
connection. Ive enabled the wifi which connects to the network with no
trouble, and gets given an IP address. The LMS server can see the player
(on the wifi MAC address) However, each time I start the player, and
select My music it reports a problem connecting to the server. If I go
into the Choose Player menu, there are 2 entries for pcptouch (the
playername). If I choose the first it connects fine, and everything then
works OK. If I choose the second entry, it fails to connect. Im guessing
its trying to connect over the wired interface rather than wifi. All
this time, LMS can see the player on the proper wifi MAC address.

Any suggestions how I can remove the duplicate player so it doesnt need
manual input?

At the LMS server end, i have edited the server prefs and removed the
player associated with the wired MAC address, but this didnt change
anything at the player end.

Cheers
Nigel

Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] ANNOUNCE: piCorePlayer 5.0.0

2020-01-14 Thread NigelC

Hi pcp team

Im running LMS on picoreplayer on a Pi3B with all my music files on my
NAS. I have used the option to move the slimserver files onto the NAS,
which works fine most of the time.

Occasionally, first thing in the morning, LMS seems to lock up - the
pcp home page responds OK , saying LMS is running. pcp:9000 displays an
outline LMS home page but with no content on either the left or right
hand pane. I suspect that the NAS drive has gone to sleep overnight and
LMS cant cope with this. I cant see any problem reported in the logs
though. A restart of LMS fixes the issue.

Whats the best place for these slimserver files?
SD card - does LMS do many writes and potentially wear the card out?
NAS - as Im using at the moment
USB stick - or does this suffer the same as the SD card

Also, in the past, with LMS running on a linux box, I always had
problems after a power cut (we get lots of these where I live). LMS
started before the NAS and the music files were not available. Once the
NAS was up, I had to "sudo mount -a" to get it running. Am I likely to
have problems like this with LMS on picoreplayer too?

Many thanks for this great project

Cheers
Nigel

[SlimDevices: Unix] AlienBBC cant find Mplayer

2009-06-18 Thread NigelC

Hi folks

I'm fed up of regular problems running SC on Vista (Vista problems not
SC, lock ups/crashes etc), so Ive setup a server running Ubuntu 9.04 and
SC 7.3.2. All the basic functions work fine, but now I've added some
plugins including AlienBBC, which complains that mplayer is missing.
I've installed mplayer, but SC still complains. How do I ensure SC can
find mplayer?

Thanks
Nigel

Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] Really straightforward Linux question

2009-01-11 Thread NigelC

Hi Brad

That works for me, thanks. And I've learnt quite a lot about Linux in
the process.

SC is now scanning my whole library, and I'm already pleased with the
responsiveness of SC on my Linux laptop, compared to my (more powerful)
Vista desktop.

I'll also keep looking to see if I can avoid the umount/mount sequence
to change the mask.

Regards
Nigel

Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] Really straightforward Linux question

2009-01-10 Thread NigelC

I tried the chmod (both with and without sudo). It appeared to run OK,
and shook the disk for a while, but did not change the permissions.
There are still no r or x permissions for group or other. I also tried
to set the permissions from within the GUI file browser and again it
apeared to work, but the permission was not changed.

After a bit of googling, I ran mount -t vfat to see how the drive was
mounted. This reported:
/dev/sdc1 on /media/My Book type vfat (rw,nosuid,nodev,uhelper=hal,
shortname=mixed,uid=1000,utf8,umask=077,flush)

I think the umask=077 is the problem, and stops me setting the required
permissions. Linux mounts the usb drive automatically. I suppose I could
unmount and then remount the drive with a different umask, but it would
be preferable if I could change the 077 deafult used by the system. Can
this be done?

[SlimDevices: Unix] Really straightforward Linux question

2009-01-09 Thread NigelC

I have just taken my first faltering steps down the Linux road, hoping
that I can have a more reliable and simpler system for running
Squeezecenter than Vista.

To experiment a little, I've loaded Ubuntu and Squeezecenter onto a
spare laptop. I've put a copy of all my music files onto an external
USB drive, and have started Squeezecenter.

How do I tell SC that my music files are on a USB drive known as My
Book.

I can see all these music files in the Ubuntu file browser, but I cant
work out how to specify this path to SC. The SC Settings wizard shows
me all the folders on the filesystem. I'm sure this is very
straightforward Unix stuff so I'd appreciate some help

Nigel

Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] Really straightforward Linux question

2009-01-09 Thread NigelC

the df -h confirms that the drive is at /media/My Book as Mark
suggested

I can browse the drive either from this path or simply from My Book. I
have also copied a couple of folders and files off the USB drive into
home/nigel/music which I can also browse.

However, SC cannot see any of the files - neither in /media nor in
home/nigel/music

Might this be a permissions issue?

Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] Really straightforward Linux question

2009-01-09 Thread NigelC

The ls -al output is below.

testing 123 was manually created in the file browser
Paul Weller was copied from the usb drive (written by a Windows
system), and then I modified the file permissions.
Buena Vista was copied from the USB drive with no changes
SC can now see and scan the Paul Weller folder but not Buena Vista

The file browser can still see all the files.

Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] Specifying a directory in Ubuntu

2007-07-05 Thread NigelC

Hi Dave
I'm in exactly the same position- Im trying Ubuntu for the first time,
after years of Windows. Ive downloaded Slimserver 6.5.3, which is
running (I can see the web interface). I can't persuade SS to scan my
files, wich are located on an external USB drive. The first problem was
getting the case correct, /media/My Book is not the same as /media/my
book

Having fixed that, and checked the SS logs , there is now an access
permissions issue.

Anyone know how to give SS the right permissions?

Regards
Nigel
