Unless you plan on hosting a site with a large profile (i.e. more than maybe 500,000 page views per month), a VPS will handle all this fine at a much lower cost with just as much control over the server. I personally recommend Linode.com. They've been known to host IRC, and Asterisk (VoIP) servers among many other exotic services. Re: [UPHPU] Utah Colocation
Have you thought about just getting a dedicated server instead of colocating? I'm not a fan of VPS as many VPS hosts put caps on your resource usage that can cause a few headaches.. And we've found as a hosting company that colo often just turns out to be more expensive than the alternatives... If you've got someone dealing with hardware FOR you, there's really no reason not to mange everything remotely, so you wouldn't even really need someone in SLC. They price their bandwidth based on 95th percentile billing. The numbers they give you are for a constant stream of data at that speed. i.e. 256kbps seems slow, but thats a constant rate of data transfer per second. You can burst to 10x your bandwidth amount. So if you purchased a 512k connection, you can burst to 5mpbs. I'll also second what Brandon mentioned about hosting. Unless there is a specific reason for wanting to colocate, using a hosting provider such as one that provides a dedicated server or a VPS can usually be very competitive and a good choice.
