RE: installation prerequisites

Hi Sharu,

If you don’t want to wait for Trafodion 2.0 release (which will support CDH
5.5), you can still find CDH 5.3 here:
http://www.cloudera.com/downloads/cdh/5-3-0.html

Hi Sharu,

First, welcome! As Eric asks, are you trying out Trafodion as an
experiment, or do you have a particular use case in mind?

The daily build that Amanda mentions is not necessarily ready for real use
- it's a snapshot build and so might contain incomplete fixes, partial
updates, limited documentation, etc.

The developer daily build is not recommended for general release usage
because it is a snapshot for testing purposes and so the quality
expectations are different.

For more information on the daily build (especially if you're going to try
to install it), you can see the development list by subscribing to
dev-subscr...@apache.incubator.trafodion.org . That list goes into deep
technical details, build mechanics and more - definitely not a
general-purpose user list, as the daily build is not a general-purpose
build!

If you're interested in trying to build Trafodion or checking out a
developer build as part of becoming more deeply involved in Trafodion,
there are plenty of people on the dev list who can help you out!

We're in the process of putting together Trafodion release 2.0 which is the
official path for supporting Trafodion on Cloudera 5.4. I've been away at
a conference this week, so haven't seen the latest updates on release 2.0,
but it should be going to release candidate status very soon.

Thanks and again, welcome!

RE: installation prerequisites

2016-04-01 Thread Eric Owhadi
Hello Sharu,

I don’t know if you are trying to install Trafodion binaries to use it as a
user, or trying to build Trafodion code to contribute features, fixes etc.

If the second option, then follow the “contribute” tab on Trafodion web
site.

The build environment include a local version of Hadoop, you should not
have to worry about getting it from cloudera. The build environment setup
will take care of installing a one node full setup of all Hadoop component
needed, good enough for development,

Welcome to the Trafodion community,

Eric

I went to http://trafodion.apache.org/download.html to get started. There
is no mention the version number on the link.

Can the daily build be cloned from git?

Trafodion 1.3 release does not work on 5.4 or 5.5

The daily build should now work on 5.4 (we just merged in that change
yesterday ..)

Thanks!

Yes, you could build the code yourself and then create a tar ball to
install.

You can also use a daily build just for testing/installation that we have
here...this is not a released version just something to help.

Thanks!

Will it be OK to use hadoop distribution by CDH 5.4 or higher?

Re: 答复: add a comment to a table

2016-04-01 Thread Qifan Chen
The implementation probably will be involving the following:

   1. add a new type for column TEXT_TYPE in meta-table
   TRAFODION."_MD_".TEXT, say COMMENT_TYPE;
   2. allow COMMENT ON syntax in the parser;
   3. convert the content of COMMENT ON stmt into insertion/update of a
   row(s) in the TEXT meta-data table for the SQL object in question;
   4. write a UDF to show the comment easily for a SQL object, by hiding
the join of the meta-data TEXT and OBJECTS table.

The task may be a little bit involving :-).

Hi,

I do not think Trafodion currently supports Oracle's COMMENT ON syntax
https://docs.oracle.com/cd/B19306_01/server.102/b14200/statements_4009.htm

It will be a relatively simple feature to add but we do not have it today as
far as I know.
