Re: XFCE based LiveDVD/IMG
I'm looking forward for i386 version. It would save me a lot of time, since XFCE4 or PEKWM + web browser (firefox/midori/w3m) libreoffice, gnome-commander and samba is all I need for a good working DFBSD machine. Yeah, installable, just like our normal ISO/IMG with some more packages (the ones I've listed). And yes, so far it's x86_64 only. I'll see what I can do about building an i386 one. Sascha
Re: Some problems installing dragonFly BSD. Can anybody help?
Maybe you should try no-gui DFBSD image, perhaps in VirtualBox (?) - it works fine on Mac OS X. That way, you can install configure all your needed stuff from the ground up (xorg, window manager, pkgsrc etc.) and copy most config files on your real DF system. Re: USB image
This looks interesting: http://www.pendrivelinux.com/universal-usb-installer-easy-as-1-2-3/ Would it work with a DragonFly image? Please, someone try this. I've tried this method today (just for testing) and it doen't work (OTB). The same with unetbootin. So dd should be used. There is a method to put .iso file on usb stick (works/tested on freebsd iso) but since DF has .img file it is rather useless.
Re: Abnormal termination of greeter
There is an issue with pkgsrc and packages. Some packages are updated, some not and in the end you can't install all apps that you would like to (specially from /pkgsrc/wip directory). Eg. if you start your installation with parcellite i3, you will not be able to install gmplayer or any other media player (vlc) - the only one you can is kaffeine (with KDE base). If you start installation with gmplayer, you will not be able to install parcellite (some times also i3). Usually the problem was with png, atk and glib - those were out-of-date and could not be updated with out deleting most gnome stuff (in the end you had to reinstall all apps or even DFBSD). All this started after redirecting vendor to master in Makefile. KL. Dnia 30-07-2010 o godz. 6:15 Pierre Abbat napisał(a): On Thursday 29 July 2010 22:19:24 Justin C. Try a different version of Virtualbox, or maybe a different emulator - it seems like every third release of Virtualbox doesn't work for running DragonFly, and then it does. That's not the case, DragonFly has worked consistently on VirtualBox for a year or so. On some machines it seems to panic on first boot, but if you warm reset the virtual machine it may come up fine the second time. Playing with the various machine settings such as APIC_IO seems to fix this. I am beginning to get the impression that this only happens on VirtualBox running under Windows. Sam No, the same problem is with VB and mac os x as a host OS.
HAMMER/DF crash while mounting smbfs
Because it happened few time I would like to write a bit more detailed info how I did crashed HAMMER with mount -t smbfs command. First, DF was installed on eeepc with 20 GB ssd, named ad2 (4GB) and ad3 (16GB). With installer I had to put DF on smaller disc (faster) and after successful installation, I then added bigger disc with #8220;hammer volume-add /dev/ad3s0 / #8594; is that correct? I had no problem using HAMMER on such a small disk (disabled auto hammer cleanup) until I wanted to connect my eeepc to other computer, mini #8220;server running PC-BSD. I did install and configured samba and had connection with PC-BSD, but only one way #8594; using PC-BSD or with smbclient (with this command I could getput files from PC-BSD using my eeepc). Now everytime I tried to mount folder on PC-BSD (or Windows runnig computer) with mount -t smbfs it failed and crashed (once using DF on eeepc internal ssd and once using DF on a big 200GB external usb-hdd). After such a crash I could boot into my root or user account but root had no apps (not even cli / user had links/nano) available #8211; both failed to start X. There was data on disc but I could not #8220;get to that data as it was not there. With #8220;mount all entries were normal (checked it on freshly installed DF setup). Folder /home/user had no sign of any data so did /mysnapshot or /var/hammer but with df -h I did get the same info as before crash. Got the same result when mounted those discs using DF live-cd. So this is what happened #8211; hope it helps developers. I now know, that mounting smbfs is a HAMMER killer :) Have no, fresh installation of DF (now mounted ad3 as /home not / #8594; maybe this is a better idea, don't know). For sure, I'll not try to mount samaba share with eeepc :) I do like HAMMER as a file system going to test it on eeepc with small ssd (should I use noatime option?).
WINE - DFBSD
Hi, this is my first post here so I would like to say HELLO to all, and thank you for DragonFlyBSD! I have a problem with installing WINE... Is it possible to run WINE with DragonFlyBSD? No useful info in google and while installing wine-devel (via pkgsrc) I ended up with this error -o internettransport.o internettransport.c internettransport.c: In function 'InternetTransport_WndProc': internettransport.c:325: error: 'Include_winsock_h_before_stdlib_h_or_use_the_MSVCRT_library' undeclared (first use in this function) internettransport.c:325: error: (Each undeclared identifier is reported only once internettransport.c:325: error: for each function it appears in.) internettransport.c:325: error: expected ';' before 'infd' internettransport.c:356: warning: implicit declaration of function 'Include_winsock_h_before_stdlib_h_or_use_the_MSVCRT_library' internettransport.c:356: error: 'infd' undeclared (first use in this function) gmake[2]: *** [internettransport.o] Error 1 gmake[2]: Leaving directory `/usr/pkgsrc/emulators/wine-devel/work/wine-1.1.16/dlls/inetcomm' gmake[1]: *** [inetcomm] Error 2 gmake[1]: Leaving directory `/usr/pkgsrc/emulators/wine-devel/work/wine-1.1.16/dlls' gmake: *** [dlls] Error 2 *** Error code 2 Stop. bmake: stopped in /usr/pkgsrc/emulators/wine-devel *** Error code 1 And some others but those were fixable - with pkg_radd -fv frontforge glut To be honest I only need WINE for SigmaPlot MS Word (both needed for work), so maybe there is other way to use those programs under DFBSD - (virtualbox is useless, since my netbook has 900MHz CPU, and 1GB of RAM). Have good day! klanger
