Right-click the existing Bibliography and choose Edit Database.
You get a new window with a database document and with the connection

I think people are trying to steer away from java so it wouldn't surprise me if
GnuLinux distros, even gateway ones started to avoid it in default installs.

True but in this case it was a 3rd party app produced by people that have set
themselves against us. Hopefully now they have given OpenOffice.org to Apache
Foundation they might not be quite so obtuse. Java is still likely to continue
to be unreliable but there is less chance of that
