I think that this specific announcement should be evaluated carefully to
avoid a disruptive impact on the user base (although the number of Base
users is small in comparison with the global number of users, the are
people and organizations which do rely on Base for their data).

So, any "radical" deprecation of features should be evaluated not only
in technical terms, but also in marketing/communication terms. We cannot
get rid of a feature without giving users a reasonable amount of time to
migrate their data (and the fact that they are embedded in the zipped
file is not a solution for most users, who are not even aware that files
are zipped folders which include all document components).

Thanks Robert.

Tamas has indicated on the dev mailing list that the binary content of
the hsqldb database remains stored in the ODB:

"In the current state, the old HSQLDB data is also kept in the odb file
after migration. You can revert the migration by unzipping the odb
file and overwriting the URL in content.xml in tag
.

Besides that, the migration will be permanent only if you save the
document and a red circle on the save button indicates that something
has been changed."

I somehow doubt that this will be seen as a suitably satisfactory
solution for most users...

[libreoffice-users] using/printing of non-std paper formats

2018-04-12 Thread Paul Neuwirth
Hello,
(5.4.5.1,GNU/Linux,cups) I want to use paper formats, which are
not predefined in LibreOffice (8x12 and different custom labels
(autocutting device)).
I can set the page dimensions manually (e.g. in Writer), but no way to
use the corresponding (in ppd defined) paper formats in the printer
settings dialog. So the result is never correct.
I already tried to set all configs "...FromPrinterSetup" to true, but
no success.
Any Ideas... web searched a lot, but could not find any usable
information.
Thank you

Paul

yes, & thank you for expressing what obviously I was unable to so do.

There's also a problem with their copy & paste suggestion, since
that surely requires having more than one copy of LO open at one time,
which seems impossible since when I click on LO again, the opened one
appears rather than a new version.

And when I've gone to the LO archives to attempt to download the
previous versions, it merely sends me back to the download page to download
the newest version.

PLEASE EXPLAIN HOW to download a previous version, if the latest
versions will no longer have this option available.

That may work for inserting only one slide, but what Anne wants is to
insert an entire Impress presentation, not just a slide or two. This can
be done with LO 5.1.6.3 (which is what I use), but it apparently is
missing in later versions. I can understand and appreciate Anne's
frustration that a former functionality seems to have been deliberately
removed from the program (unless it has just been moved to another
location on the menu, which nobody seems to have been able to find).

Yes, a person can copy and paste select slides, but that is hardly a
satisfactory answer when she used to be able to insert an entire file
and can no longer do so.

Hi Anne and all:

As  I understood you are working with one Presentation file that is
in cloud and the other that you need copy too.

Why not try to use two tabs in web browser to open each
Presentation file, or use two different web browser to open each file,
supposed that you can't download them and then upload them again. I
don't know if these suggestions work but nothing to lose trying.

Re: [libreoffice-users] [Copying slides from one presentation to another]

2018-04-12 Thread Italo Vignoli
With the latest versions of LibreOffice you have two different options
for inserting slides from one presentation into another one, both tested
and working on every platform.

A. You can open two different LibreOffice presentations at the same
time, and switch between them using the Window menu.

When you have two presentations open you can copy and paste slides
between them from the Slide Sorter view:

1. Select multiple slides with the mouse while keeping the Ctrl key pressed
2. Copying them by selecting Edit > Copy or by hitting Crtr+C
3. Switch to the other presentation from Window > Presentation Name
4. Past the slides after the selected slide from Edit > Paste or by
hitting Ctrl+V

B. You can insert multiple slides from another presentation into the
open presentation from Slide > Insert Slide from File...

1. Search and open the source presentation
2. Select any number of slides or the entire presentation
3. Click OK and wait for the process to complete

I have just copied/pasted according to option A and inserted according
to option B 60 slides of an 82 slide presentation into another 142 slide
presentation without any issue.

Although I don't see the need of reverting to an old LibreOffice version
to do the same thing in a different way, you can find old LibreOffice
releases here:

Covered at the weekly ESC meeting [1]. With some discussion in gerrit where
the commit was backed out [2], and legacy HSQLDB support restored. Seems
conversion to Firebird would become optional at 6.1, and new Base data
likely being the Firebird engine.

As of this evenings builds of master the FB3 driver is back to
experimental, so Tamás' request for Firebird data testing in Base is on hold
as this gets sorted.
